Exhaust residue on rear bumper/side?

Just washed the car today and after it bad been completely dry started it up. Temp was about 44 degrees farenheit today and to my dismay almost immediately after starting it up I noticed that residue from the exhaust was beginning to gather on the back bumper and side. When I rubbed my finger on it I bad black residue on my finger.

I really hope this doesn't mean that my engine seals or bad and that I'm burning antifreeze. I will have a look more closely under the hood tomorrow at the oil color and see if I see anything fishy.

These NBPs are nearly impossible to keep clean.

Sorry, searched for it and didn't really find anything regarding residue build up from the vapor.

While that is indeed a fine stallion you have there, I believe that he was referring to pictures of the residue if you can.

PS jealous of the "S" after the "TL"
I wish it was in my budget back then

Yeah, NBP is pretty high maintenance when it comes to keeping it clean. I had a 03 NPB 3.2 TL and upgraded to an 07 CBP Type S. Even when I don't have time to wash the car, it still looks insanely clean!

Maybe you just missed a spot while washing it

Would a black residue be more like burning oil?

Black and White cars hard to keep clean (or at least appear to be clean)

Silver is much much much more forgiving.. the dirtier it is, the darker shade of grey it looks.

However, I still can't stand even a waterspot on mine and wash it weekly... even when it's 30 degrees outside.

Happened again tonight. Went on a short 20 minute drive to the theater and back and came back and the bumper was covered lightly in a black residue on the right and left sides of the bumper behind the wheels. I'm not sure whether this is brake dust or crap from the exhaust.

I can tell you for sure brake dust isn't going to be getting on your rear bumper. Brake dust will only accumulate most on your wheels.

It's not on the back of the car, just the sides right behind the wheels on that portion of the bumper. But that is also the same area that the exhaust smoke goes to when the car is sitting idling.
