...ammonia, that is. Took a whiff from the pipes and sure enough it smelled like ammonia.

Any of youz guys experience something like this?
I was getting something out of the trunk and that's how I smelled it. I thought CO was supposed to be odorless...

Exaust on Newer cars is more C02 thanks to the catalytic converter. Either way, exaust always smells. If there is white smoke accompanying it then it is probably and anti-freeze leek, if its darker, blueish smoke then you could have an oil leak(if using conventional, not sure on teh color or smell synthetics put out)

You get nasty smells before the car warms up the cats, which happens fast if you are driving. The TL warms up the cats faster than most, but every car would put out the same smells cold (using the same gasoline).

My TL has the stanrge smell starting from yesterday... like plastic burning from exhaust.... is it just because the car was too cold? After I drive for a while and it still has the same smell tho...

Are you sure that a plastic bag (like a grocery bag) hasn't wrapped itself around some part of your exhaust system? Not an uncommon event.
