Engine noise
I hope this is not a repost, but I've recently noticed a small ticking sound from the engine. It's the sound that those big trucks makewhen you park next to them, you know - tick, tick, tick ,tick. I was wondering if this is normal. My TL only has 5K on her. Thanks

The ticking sound I'm talking about sounds like the sound from a desil truck or something to that effect. I've only noticed it now and not during the winter. The sound is more prominent through the driver's side.

Valve Lifter noise? Dunno
Some people have had the ticking noise go away (on other cars) by switching oils. Try pouring some Havoline 5w-30 SM/GF-4 in there. It might help, it wouldn't hurt.

Check this link. It may explain what's causing that ticking sound http://autorepair.about.com/cs/troub...a011902a_4.htm

It should be to early, but that can happen with worn bearings on your belt driven accesories. THe ticking is characteristic of desal trucks. I am not positive what causes it though. Either way, it is not the same reason for your TL, cause thats obviously not diesel. Get it checked out, better safe the sorry.

i also say it's most likely valve lifters, if it's a soft and constant ticking sound... which is unusual on a new car. i'd call the dealership in advance and reserve a loaner... it'll take at least a few hours to fix.

print out the TSB for noisy engine, it plainly states that the tappets need adjusting.

From my experience... "Tick tick tick" That sound is normal. I took the car in to the dealer and did side by side test. When I first got this car I was freaking out cuz of the engine noise. It was alot different than my other Honda V6 engine sound. It just takes time getting use to.
Think of it as if you are dating a new girl. They all nag differently.
Just take the car to the dealer, and have them give you a print out as a proof that you came into the shop with engine problem. If something happens down the road... you can have them fix it beyond your 48 month?
Good luck!

INTERESTING REPLY ON THE "tick tick tick" that is what my post was a few messages down . . . i describe it as a purr or a in motin sewing machine.. Its funny how we all analyze things after others post.. and the girlfriend reference is so true..................... i had a 99 accord coup ex v6 prior and in my opinion had a smoother ride and less vibrating engine... but i still love my TL
