E-118: How to remove double sided tape w/ EASE!

Hello everyone,

Just thought i'd share my experience with removing the double sided tape behind the A-Spec Kit...especially we're having a group buy and that many people seems to be getting their kit (already or soon). We all know that the tape Acura provided wasn't the best one, so removing this existing tape is ideal...and purchasing a wider 3M tape will definitely make that kit stick with no annoying gaps.

Reason why i'm sharing this because i had difficulties in taking off the first strip ('cause it was my first time) --> I used a blade, goof off and a rag towel...doing it this way worked, but was time consuming. So this is what i used for the rest of the removal:

**Goof Off, Rags, and your almight pointer finger**

Working on the rear Kit (Adhesive part with the risers), you don't even need goof off, just start pulling on the adhesive with your pointer finger:

**You can see that the adhesive pulls back, not even leaving any sticky shtuff**

**For the adhesive without any risers **
(Rear = 3 middle strips) + (Front = All of them):

1. Put drops of goof off on the entire adhesive, making sure you get it all covered and soaked.

2. Wait for about 5 Mins....then using your rag and your pointer finger, start pulling back on the adhesive, just like the pictures, except with a rag. Use a little force, and slowly you could see the adhesive pulling back smoothly.

3. Once finished, check everything and see if there are any small sticky residue...just to make sure you have a smooth surface.

4. Finish it off by wiping the area you worked on with a rubbing alcohol on all the spots you removed.

5. Replace with a 3m double sided tape...and you are done.

I hope this helps out all the people "prepping" their A-Spec kit prior to installing it...it is an easy project...so might as well do it right! If you guys have any questions, let me know. Good luck everyone!

^ Lol...i knew i'd get flamed for this thread, but it took me awhile doing my first strip...but i got the hang of it. This is for everyone to make the process faster...and to avoid frustration that you start messing up your work and giving up.

I dunno about you, but I thought the double-sided tape was easy to removal, of course, with proper technique and patience.

Goof Off is great stuff, but be careful what you use it one. The backside of the ASPEC kit (or the backside of anything) is perfectly fine.

Nah I aint hating lol, but its just the same procedure of debadge and removing side/fender moldings that are held by double sided adhesive.

Question though, why replace the adhesive acura provided? My front lip held on ok, and I'll be getting my side/rear lip with my next pay check. Did you use a blowdryer on the tape and do it when the weather is warm to make it more sticky?

Haha, it's all good, bro. People in here have mentioned that the tape provided doesn't hold up well (some people posted up some pics too)...so, i just wanted to make sure. I didn't use a blowdryer at all..i guess that would've helped as well, huh? Just too scared to damage the kit (?) And yeah, i'm waiting for the weather to get warmer to install it.

I feel you...this is what i was researching on...and the install seems to be alright (never done anything like it, but with Azine, it gave me a little confidence). it seems like many have been commenting on this "Stock Tape" provided.
