So im making a left from webster ave onto fordham rd last night when a pattie wagon(NYPD van) stop at the light to my left and says hey did u know driving while watching t.v is illegal and u can be charged attempted man slotter? so i said o really? he goes yea so i suggest u turn it off....so i told him as soon as it pick up the speed sensor in the car it shuts off...HAHA had nothing else to say...so as it turned green i hit the switch as if it really does turn off when driving and just kept goin..the new escalades/yukons and tahoe do that so i figured it might work.

DEFF got me outa of a ticket... So what can they charge u for this..i dont believe the attempted man-slotter bid...any cops on the forum?

damn they are very creative to say the least... just ran through my penal law book, and guess what, dvd's in cars arent listed in there since the last time it was updated

It's a ticket but I think they can only get you with an equipment violation and can fine you up to $150 (virginia) not sure what it would be here in the north east. Of course they will also fail you for inspection but they would have to know it's a real dvd player to even look at it any further. Since your unit is consealed you shouldn't have to worry about it anything..
