DVD audio vs. DTS 5.1 Entertainment music discs
Hey guys and gals. went to virgin to check out the DVD-A selection and noticed 2 things: titles with DVD-A clearly marked and other titles, some the same ie: Sting, and Diana Krall, with a red label on top reading: DTS 5.1 experience or something to that effect, but no DVD-A logo. Are they different? Which are better? i've been trying to search on the net about these things and didn't get too far. is it just newer packaging and the same titles are actually the same or is there a difference between DVD-As and DTS 5.1 experience discs? Are they produced and mixed differently? Does anyone know the deal?

The ones labelled "DTS 5.1 Music Entertainment Disc" are CDs with DTS-encoded surround mixes. They sound good, not as good as DVD-A. The TL player will play them.

thanks Mike, i figured that was the case. It seems like the record label "5.1 entertainment / silverline, which is responsible for most of these 5.1 music discs, are starting to have more current top 40 titles.
I assume that these discs are on the dvd format or are they compressed on cd format?

Ludebliss,
There are DTS 5.1 discs that are CD, and more recently, now DTS 5.1 discs that are based on DVD. Doesn't really matter so long as the TL plays both... which it seems to.
So, if there's a disc on the shelf that's in 5.1, buy it, play it, enjoy it. Support surround sound music!

DTS 5.1 Music Discs are CDs with DTS-encoded 5.1 signals. You can play them in any DTS-capable system (the TL player is one of these; that's why it has the DTS logo on it).

I haven't done an A/B comparison of a DTS DVD with the same content on a DVD-A, so I won't comment on the relative sound.

From my experience listening to both the DVD-A and DTS CD's in the TL, distinguishing a sound difference between the two is nearly impossible.
