Duralast Gold Rotors rear - don't turn
 

Hello everyone,

I have an Acura TL 2005 in pretty good shape and this year I though I would take the plunge and buy better rotors & break pads than what "she" came equipped with. So, after doing some reading on good ol' internet, I settled for these:

For the break pads:

I took the car to a car shop and they installed the rotors and break pads on the front with no problem. On the back, however, they couldn't. The rotor "fit" but after securing it to the wheel hub with the bolts, the rotor didn't spin freely anymore. They didn't offer a detailed explanation (it was on a Saturday towards the end of the day) but they did offer to purchase a new set of rotors for the back.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

A quick correction (since I can't edit the original post), they secured the rotor with the mounting screws then tried to spin it by hand.

they probably didn't back off the parking brake shoe adjustment to retract them!

The parking brake is the only thing that could stop the rotor from spinning in the rear. Your old rotor was likely very worn on the inner diameter so the parking brake shoes were far extended out. However on the new rotor, its at new thickness so it's sitting tightly against the brake shoe.
But the answer seems so simple....I'd be wary of a shop that couldn't figure that out though...

Thank you for the replies. I've told them what you guys suggested and they said it's not that. They ordered new rotors and tried them on, and just like magic the new rotors turned. I have the ones that didn't "fit" and in the spring when I will change to summer tires, I will try to change them myself. It didn't look that difficult.

duralast rotors are fine, either wrong rotor, or dealing with ijits.

I noticed the part numbering is for their ceramic coated rotor.
It might say it's spec'd the same, but the diameter and depth is bigger for the ceramic coated rotor.

1) you don't need a ceramic coated rotor, especially for the rears
2) it's bigger.. might be your issue.

+1 on the shop not retracting the parking brake adjustment (not just the star bolt but the hand brake as well). They really didn't need to switch to a different rotor as I have the Duralast Golds for my other TL. I've dealt with this "duh" moment when I replaced rear pads,rotor and parking brake shoes. Even though I've retracted the star bolt all the way in, the shoes was still catching the rotor, I had loosen the hand brake lever adjuster bolt also and all is well!!

I know this is old, but it sounds like the thickness of the metal on the inside around the parking brake contact area is TOO Thick.. And probably rubbing. But that would make it difficult to mount the rotor on the hub, if it was That Tight! surprised the installers didnt suspect a problem while installing the rotor.. But I have noticed that DURALAST has a "QA" problem on some devices. For example, I bought an Upper Control arm from autozone a few years ago, it was a duralast, And the arm was too narrow!! Like too narrow by 1/4". So, it would not fit in the space. Nothing I could do! Those arms dont spread apart by hand. haha I had to return it because it was off by 1 tiny quarter of an inch! and it would not mount! THat small quarter inch prohibited the arm from being able to mount to the car!

Anyway, I was consider these duralast brake rotors for the front only. So I was searching reviews. normally I stay away from "duralast" like the plague
