Dumb Noob Question
I don't pick up my new TL WDPNavi 'til next week and I have a question - do the tail lights use standard bulbs or LED's? I can't seem to find that info anywhere. Thanks.

The tail lights use standard bulbs; the brake lights use LED's.

Thanks for the info - man, that was fast! I feel like a kid getting a new toy, btw. Wife really thinks I'm nutz. 58 years old, retired, and having trouble sleeping just because it looks like the neatest car I've ever owned. Be forewarned - you never get too old to lust for a car!

ctlogo-I stand corrected. Looks like the tail lights and brake lights are the same LED unit, and the turn signal is a bulb. They only show one bulb and one LED unit in your picture above. Also, page 257 doesn't give any specs for the tail light bulb.

if you notice, there are 2 numbers, 4 and 11. the 4 is on top of the 11 (near the upper right corner) 11 is for the LEFT unit, 4 is for the RIGHT unit, if you see what one side looks like, the other side is just reversed, no need to picture

I was under the impression from reading the big TL book that all exterior lights except headlights (fogs, low, hi) and blinkers were LED's. Aren't the parking lights (front) LED's too?

I dont think so, cause the parking lights just use the front blinkers at a constant, low level. (I THINK, I've haven't gotten out to watch my lights blink yet.... yet... I probably will though. )

LED Technology
LED's are FAR superior to standard bulbs as there is no filament to eventually "wear out" or break. Notice how many trucks have started replacing their bulbs with the solid state wonders. They also use a miniscule amount of current compared to a standard bulb. Although it takes quite a few of them to produce sufficient light output, their long life and low current make the ultimate pricetag worth it. Their unit price will eventually be much cheaper as they find their way into the marketplace and more standardization takes place. Have you noticed that BMW's have adaptive tailights? They vary their intensity according or in proportion to brake pressure - neat idea.
