Awesome write up! I'm going to be dragging for the first time later this month and this should help quite a bit!

Don't worry about reaction time or the car in the other lane. Concentrate on learning to launch the car. Your ET is pretty much set in the first 60ft.

This will greatly reduce your chances of hitting gates and missing gears. This is how professional drivers shift gears.

1-2 shift
Hold the shifter pistol grip style and pull directly back. Easy enough.

2-3 shift
With your palm, place it BEHIND the shift knob. Your finger should wrap around the right side of the shift knob. Your wrist should be at a 90 degree angle. Use palm of your hand and push forward. The shifter should easily slide into 3rd.

3-4 shift
Invert your hand so that your thumb is pointing down. Wrap your hand around the front of the shift knob and pull directly back. You'll hit the 3-4 everytime.

What is the best method for shifting? Rev match?

4) Once the rpms fall below 1000rpms, put tranny back into gear
5) While your foot still on the brake, mash the gas pedal fully and hold for nearly 1 second (no more) to bring up the rpms.
6) Release brake with gas fully depressed.

This is not neutral drop. The technique allows you to build more stall at launch (~200-300rpms more stall).
... does absolutely nothing on the 99 tlp i can tell you with 100% positivity, yet i do notice that every now & then when doing back road runs for whatever reason the car lets me stall up to like 2600 vs. the regular approx. 2200 ... no idea why but when it does i slightly spin to where some better traction tires im sure would hookup perfect ... again i have no way of controlling this it happens 1 out of every 15-20 launches randomly, but will then allow it to do so 3 or 4 times.

Does turning on or off the ASV make a difference other than grip on the tires?

VSA aggresively cuts power when your tires begin to spin even slightly. You always want it off for maximum acceleration.

That brake torquing technique is hocus pocus imo. Just launch on green and work the throttle to keep traction.

Brake torquing effectiveness varies depending on make, model and year of the car.
