Does a new TL really rattle and make a lot of noise?

I'm considering purchasing a new TL (auto w/ navi) this week. I've read a lot of reviews on Yahoo Autos and Edmunds that mention rattles. Rattles drive me nuts, but I have a hard time believing this car would do that. I also hear that it's a rough ride.

Are those reviews not accurate? I know people like to complain.

Thanks in advance.

i believe that back in 04 it was worse (as with mine) but they have fixed a lot of the common issues, but the best way to tell is to do a couple test drives. overall in the 06 model year it shouldnt be that bad though.

I bet if you just search the word rattles you would get your answer.

I have an 05 auto w/ navi and the only rattle that I've had so far was the metal plate around the shifter area, which my b/f fixed just by slipping a very tiny piece of paper under it - now... no rattles.

And for the ride itself... no complaints here either. It's a sports sedan; it's what I expected.

I have a 2006 6MT TL. Once in a while if I drive over really rough roads filled with pot holes and heaving I might get a mysterious rattle, but never when the road is smooth. I'm sure if you do a search you find all kinds of information on this topic. Obviously, this is hot button topic on this forum. My personal take on it is that this board is for enthusiasts that are really into their cars, so they are going to be more sensitive than the masses.

BTW, I'd be more concerned about NVH (Noise Vibration and Harshness) for a car with Bridgestone Turanza Tires vs. Michelin Tires. My 6MT has Michelins and it rides much, much smoother than the '06 5AT I borrowed with Bridgestone Tires. The ride on the Turanza tires would drive me more crazy than a rattle.

I have an '06 auto/navi and I have no rattles so far. I did haev a tick in the passenger area but when I lifted the passenger head rest to the first click, the tick went away. I guess it was the leather pieces rubbing against each other. Other than that, really quiet ride.

My 05 w/ navi came with Michelin's, not the Bridgestones (which I am thankful for); so if he is looking for a a TL w/ navi...he'll probably have the Michelin's also...?

the road noise and ride with the factory bridgestones was not too bad...if the road was dry and straight. i have the re750's now and there is a little more road noise. otherwise the ride isnt too harsh or bumpy

I have an 06 with nav. I have also changed out my tire's and rims. So I must admit that I have more vibration from the tire's now so I get some rattles around the shift lever as mentioned above and now I have some rattles from my door area's. But I think when I had my tint done they started that rattle to happen.
I plan on going to the dealer to have a defective panel replaced and have the rattles fixed.

I do have some rattles and I took it to the dealer to have them "fix" them and they didn't do a damn thing. I've found a lot of good resources on this site about how to fix rattles yourself. I got rid of the worst which was the gear shifter one by putting some foam tape inbetween where the two pieces fit together. The others only show up on rough roads and I usually keep the music up so that I can't hear them most of then time.

I have two: mine is an '04 manual, built and purchased in July 2004, and my wife's is an '05 automatic, built and purchased in March 2005. On occasion, my driver's side tweeter presents a small rattle, but that's it. My wife's has no rattles at all.

I have an '06 and rattles galore......

The silver trim on my driver's door rattles a bunch, it seems to be loose, need to take to the dealership....

The rear tray rattles like crazy with the subwoofer....annoying as anything....

The pockets in front of the shifter squeak when closed, I have to have them open all the time.....

Where the A-Pillar meets the door when closed on the driver side squeaks all the time....

I HATE my rattles in my TL, I am seriously looking at getting rid of the car, and I've only had it for 7 months.....Pretty crappy if you ask me. I had an '01 Accord V6 sedan before this with WAYYY less rattles, and it was $10,000 cheaper brand new....

I ask Acura, how is this possible??

Tom

edit: Oh yes, and the driver side B-pillar too.....

I know your pain. the build quality & rattles on this car suck. I am so disappointed because I had high expectations when I bought the car.

Acura service sucks too. Thet don't give a sh*it about the problems. They are miles behind Lexus & Infinity when it comes to customer satisfaction.

I am just waiting for the restyled 2007 Maxima to arrive so I can dump this piece of shi&^t rattlesnake!

I have a 2004 ASPEC and I am going into Acura for the forth time to have a rattle fixed. Acura fixes the problem but it doesn't last more than a month. I have had several Acuras in the past and had no issues with rattles. My wife just bought a new Honda Civic and that car doesn't have any rattles and costs half the price of the TL. I think the TL is a great car and I attributed my problems with the 2004 being a new model but it sounds like Acura hasn't fixed the rattles. I know I will seriously consider other brands when my lease is up.

04 with an A-spec kit here.

I get no rattles on city driving at all. I only hear a slight rattle in the center console around the cup holders on rough highway driving. I'm going to be taking it in this weekend to get that checked out. Anyone have a suggestion on this so I don't have to waste 1/2 my day in a service lobby?

Just got my TL on saturday and havn't noticed any rattles so far, however, when I was driving to work today I had the stereo system blasting some hard hittin rap and that made the rear subwoofer area rattle a bit. But that kind of stuff is expected in almost all cars. Just had to turn down the subwoofer and bass a bit. Overall, its a nice quiet, smooth ride. I love it

I got some rattles.. I think they're comin' from somewhere on the passenger side, and driver side door. It's annoying, and i gotta get it fixed. And does anyone know if the steering wheel is supposed to shake? I mean I'm drivin' on a fairly smooth road, but i feel a little head shake is it supposed to be smooth? 06 WDP 6mt

Re: Does TL rattle

I guess it all depends on the TL you happen to purchase. The TL's have been known to have some rattles. Some of us have been fortunate enough to get a TL that doesn't rattle. I've had mine for 13000 miles and mine has been virtually rattle free. I've experienced a few minutes here and there of some pretty annoying rattles that have gone away after a few miles. Prior to the TL, I owned a 2000 Honda Accord coupe and it rattled all the time. The rattles were impossible to ignore because other than the rattles it was a smooth, quiet ride. Since it was such a quiet ride, the sound of the rattles were magnified. I'm not sure how easily some of you become annoyed but imagine someone loudly tapping a pen/pencil on a desk in a quite room. If that doesn't bother you then you should be fine.

I've seen some posts on this board from people that get pretty upset when others complain about the rattles in the TL. I guess they think that TL's don't rattle because their TL doesn't rattle or that the people who are unfortunate enough to have purchased a rattling TL are just being overly sensitive about their rattles.

That being said, the TL is an excellent car. I'd take the chance on purchasing a TL again if the only concern I had was whether or not my car was going to rattle. Most of the rattles can be fixed as well.

My previous car was a cheap little Ford Contour SE (½ the cost of the TL) and it didn't have a single rattle - except when the dual 12" kicked hard, then the rear spoiler and license plate fram rattled hehe.

I haven't even modded the car (day 8) and I can hear a rattle on the rear decklid when the sub is turned up. Somebody said that is to be expected, but even with my monster bass my cheap little Ford was squeek and rattle free (actually it never needed a repair to it's current 65K miles knock on wood).

I'm liking my TL more and more every day, but the first rattle is already annoying me - good thing I can't hear it when I'm driving.

Quick Reply: Does a new TL really rattle and make a lot of noise?
