On the site I mod, we give out warnings first, infractions second, if people don't utilize the search function.
It's one thing if the info can't be found or isn't there, but pretty much everything you could ask about a 3G TL has been asked here before and is just a simple search away.

Maybe some good will come of this. If you play around with the settings and features of the search, it works pretty well. However, it took me nearly a year to get it down right. I wonder if the default settings can be changed? Some of it is from experience. If I need to narrow it down I'll put a the username of a person I know is involved with the subject.
When I was searching for a-spec suspension and didn't know that I could use Google too, I literally went page by page in the suspension and performance sections until I found what I needed.
If you watch, some members like Inaccurate are a newbie's personal link master. If he can do it for them, there's no reason they can't do it for themselves. Maybe I need to learn some of that tact.

I agree and disagree. Sometimes information changes. A newbee may want 2010 information and not 2004 information if they, in fact, just bought a used TL. When you google a topic don't you look for the newest post?

I can see the point. However, speaker sizes do not change, the trans plug location does not change, fluid capacities don't change, octane requirement does not change, options for various trims don't change, a-spec ride height does not change, etc.

I think a great addition would be to have a direct, huge, cant miss link to the 3G garage on the top of each 3G section and main page. and perhaps something like "LOOK HERE BEFORE YOU POST NOOB!"

That video was super awesome! I agree that the 3G garage is THE most useful thing for everyone. Not just Noobs. It would actually take several days just to read all the material contained there and almost every question asked has been answered there. I actually have the link to it bookmarked. 3G garage FTW! Here I'll share.

For me the search has always worked fine. The thing that bothers me is when I do a search in the black market and there are still open threads to items for sale. I PM that person wanting to buy something and then they say they sold it 3 months ago. PLEASE KEEP BM THREADS UPDATED! It's actually happened alot to me.

My bad - I was agreeing with this post about adding a Sub-Forum button or link at the top of the 3G section possibly? And maybe it could read something like "Check Garage First!"? Just a suggestion - only because it's easy to miss at first.

Just an FYI- We will be changing the title to the 3G Garage. Admin has approved it. Stay tuned.

im a fairly new member here, id like to add that most forums are similar as far as the layout goes, and searching isnt a new thing. although i am on quite frequently and look foward to reading/learning about our 3g TLs, it does get old logging on every day and seeing another new thread about a-spec kits, paint jobs, etc. OP thx for bringing this up...

eh it's not that big of a deal to me, but i understand this board probably has the oldest crowd of people compared to the other forums i goto. every board has reposts; you'll never get rid of that. i suppose the site layout could be made easier for noobs as mentioned.

You know that those things you mentioned did not change as do many others out here, but do you think a person who just picked up a TL would know that?

I think everyone needs to relax. This forum is information based. The rules say to search. The rules also say to treat new members with respect. Lets help them out, that's why we are here. There's nothing wrong with telling them to search, just be respectful about it.
We're not going to just start deleting threads. If it bothers you that much then don't post in the thread. Cleaning up the forum is always going to be a work in progress. It's just the nature of the internet.
This thread has served its purpose- I hope.

Some good points in here about the search function and some good ideas to make it better. It's good to see the concern by members that really care about this forum. Great thread and dialog here. Keep your ideas coming. I'm not saying we will act upon each one but good ideas will help us keep this great forum great.
ggesq mentioned the name change for the 3G garage. Perhaps this is a step in the right direction. We are always looking for ways to improve this site. We (mods) are here to keep this site in order and to serve the community. So any input from the members is always welcome. Just, when you do make suggestions please think them through and give good constructive suggestions.
I've noticed that forums go through stages. When the 3G section started, of course everything was new. Now that it's been around a while, it's a bit redundant, but that's the nature of the beast. From time to time a fresh product or idea merges. This keeps the forum interesting.
I agree on the search problem that some use it and some don't. What can ya do? If you really want to find an answer to your questions I would think you would take the time to do some searching.
Some new members are lurkers before they join. They may have been lurking for years but finially think they have something to contribute and join. We don't need to bash and discourage them. We were all noobs at one time or another. A friendly suggestion to search as mentioned is fine and good. But there is no reason to bash. The forum is a great resource of information and entertainment. I hope it stays that way.........
End of rant.....whew!
