Do your 6mt tranny's feel almost too smooth?

Do your tranny's feel almost too smooth? Its too easy to drive now.

I've had my car for a little over a year now, and like many in the beginning, it took some time to get used to the clutch. But w/ all the talk of clutches going bad, i must admit im a little paranoid. The car is still quick, but doesn't seem as quick. Im thinking that i've just gotten used to the speed and the quickness of it. I guess im also feeling that the car is not as fast in all the lower gears. 2nd gear is a little jumpy at times, and i can't even feel myself going into 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th gears. A big part of me feels like i've just gotten too used to the car and have learned to shift the car too well. I find it hard to 'not' shift properly.

Im assuming that if the clutch was going bad, i would notice the car hesitate severely or the RPMs shooting up w/ massive lag in the car. The only thing i do notice since i don't really push my car too much is when i accelerate hard, i almost feel this sense of the car holding back a little in the lower rpms until it reaches 4000+ and into VTEC. Is this the difference between VSA on and VSA off? or just no torque.

The A-Spec suspension will get rid of that sluggishness for you. Before the A-Spec suspension, I would have to disable VSA just to feel the acceleration. Not so with it installed and it makes it so much more fun to drive now.

If you're worried about the clutch here's how you can test it. Find a steep hill and put it in 5th at about 40mph or 6th at about 45mph while going up it. Floor it and if the clutch is going out the rpm's will jump up rapidly as it slips. If it holds and continues to accelerate as normal all is good.

If you're going through a clutch in three model years (at most), and you're not racing and the clutch is properly designed for the car and it was installed correctly and you are not towing or doing something else in a similar vein, then you are doing something very wrong.

Under the conditions I just listed, you should expect at the very least, well over 100,000 miles (actually over 200,000) out of your clutch.

One of the reasons I went with a Honda product is the tranny/clutch. I have rarely heard stories of cluthes gone bad with low or average miles.

It may just be all in your head. You felt something was wrong and starting looking for problems that may or maynot be there. Just take a deep breath, and enjoy this amazing car

I may be new to this site, but I too have noticed a similar situation with my TL. However, I know its me and not the car. Driving it everyday, you get accustomed to how the vehicle drives and handles. Overall weight of the vehicle will also have an impact on how the tranny performs, such as how much cargo is on board and its weight. I haul cargo every day, and sometimes none at all and there is a significant noticeable difference in performance... If you are truly worried, swing by for a checkup at the dealer... Let them check the clutch and tranny and put any worries to rest... better safe than sorry...
