Do I need new parking brake shoes (pictures)?
Shoes from a 2008 acura tl type s auto. 90k miles. I adj the rear hub lever on bottom of pb assembly (the nob that spins) so where I have 1 click on the lever in the car I here scraping on the rotor. Issue is with lever all the way pulled the tires still do not lock to stop car. Car can still move with pb fully engaged. Everyone tells me shoes don't really wear especially on an auto but tell me what U think. I want the car tires to lock when pb fully engaged like it should.
Here are photos.

Doesnt look like much material there. Maybe teh parking brake was on while driving in the past?
My parking brake works like it should, I can torque my lugs at 80ft/lb with my rear wheels off the ground.
If you have already tightened them and it still doesnt hold, I would replace them. Some people will say with an auto you dont need the parking brake, but I like having it while I work on my car.

It does but also does not look like a huge difference. I just want this darn e brake to engage and hold wheels locked. It's holding now but with little force wheels will spin like on a big hill. Thoughts?

While you already have it apart you might as well go ahead and change them. Shoes are usually significantly cheaper than pads. It looks like yours are almost down to the rivets anyways

You don't need new shoes as there is lining remaining and new shoes have very little lining material. Not at home so can't tell you the OEM thickness alothough I've posted it before.
First, I'd adjust the shoes properly with access through the rotor hat then give it a try.

Thanks guys I adjusted the cable in hub and in center console to 1 click on pb lever so the huge would scrape a little when engaged. When fully engaged .the tires can still turn with a bit of force from my hand. Can't get this thing dialed in

Any DIY out there on how to change those pads? I take it they're all the same for Honda/Acuras ( with rear discs ) maybe EricTheCarGuy has a video on that.

just so you know the parking brake on the TL will always have a little play, for example if you park on a hill, no matter how tight your ebrake is, the car will always roll like an inch then it'll lock up. thats how all TL's are, nothing you can do about it. on the other hand, whether or not your tires lock up when you pull it while driving, depends on your tires. I guarantee if you have some racing slick tires that are warmed up, you will never lock them up in dry traction no matter how good your ebrake is. however if you have crappy tires that dont grip at all then yes its always easy to lock them up with the ebrake.
