2004+ ACURA TL MOLESKIN INSTALL DIY
Thought I give my donation to the club. I have done DIY for years for clubs and thought I get one started so far. Add it to the collection you guys have for DIY. There is never too many even if we have some of the same type already.
I usually try to make them as easy as possible and detailed as well.

Nice write-up pimpin-tl. It's too late for me since the guy that buffed my exterior decided to detailed the inside of my car (without my approval) scratched it with his dirty towel. I know he was trying to be nice but he did more harm than help. I might get it redone with thicker tint.
Becareful when you have someone detail your car. Don't let them wipe down your window with the towel they used for the outside of the car!

When I had my windows done the installer told me they normally replace the rubber seals with a felt type material to prevent the tint from getting scratched. This was no additional cost (I'm sure it was built into the cost somewhere) so I said go ahead and do it. Haven't had a problem with scratches yet (knock on wood). I'm curious though, did any of you guys have your tint installer make the same offer or no?

Thanks! That's a nice write up. I ordered my moleskin and was just doing some quick research for the install. Anyone have a writeup on the install without removing the doors? I would like to try it that way.

However, it involves stretching the leather material at the top of the door panel and the ones I have seen done that way had a wrinkle in the material. It is very easy to remove and re-install the door panels. I did it.

Well, I definately don't want wrinkles in my leather. I looked in the garage but didn't find a good write up w/pics for the moleskin install w/out removing door panels. Some people said they didn't get wrinkles, so I caught in between now.

Is it really a MUST have if you get your car tinted? Also I have seen people on this forum that have said they cut off the weather strip when they got their tint done? Wouldn't they have to ask you before modifying your car in such a way???

I have a 07 tl and just had tints installed. Looks like I will need to install some moleskin because there is stratching on the front two windows. My girfriends 06 TL didnt scratch and we got it done at the same place.

I have said a dozen times in a dozen threads that tinters will tell you anything to get your money and get you out the door.
The usual BS is "I've done a hundred TL's without moleskin and never had a problem."
Yeah, right? They don't have a problem but the TL owner does. They pimp the lifetime guarantee but, if you read the written coverage, it usually excludes accident or scratching.
Even so, I would take it right back to the tinter and have him do it over. Then I would keep taking it back until he decided it needs the moleskin. Then, let him eat the cost of it.

Great DIY!!! The only question is were the windows up or down during the process? My windows are tinted already and the drivers one is the only one thats scratched, should I put the moleskin on b4 he retints the window or after. I don't really want all the water getting on the mole skin when he retints it, I think it will effect the adhesive. Also because he dosen't need to retint the passenger windows' can I leave the windows up when I put the moleskin on and not roll them down for a couple of days so it dry/cure? Or do i have to let the wipers stay out of the car for drying process?

But, like all new tint, you won't want to put your windows down until the tint is dry and settled in.
The moleskin is a seal that rides against the glass just like the rubber wipers did. It gets water on it all the time when the windows are steamed up. Occasional water shouldn't phase it.

You are talking about the metal screws and not plastic pop-locks, I presume.
Or, are you making a joke? (One that doesn't seem to apply to this thread topic)
