Grote 44040 DRL Module
Grote Pink Wire = ignition wire
Grote Yellow Wire = low beam
Grote Blue Wire = vehicle park lamp wire
Special Note: The module is NOT suitable for vehicles with the headlight switch on the ground side of the circuit or for vehicles equipped with vacuum or mechanically operated headlight covers.
um er.....ground side of the circuit? For example?????
Wonder why Grote decided to go with the 100% DRL low beam intensity......gonna tick off a lot of non Acura Drivers........well they deserve it don't they?!

I've been in contact with Grote and their module does not dim the fog light. After hearing this I was turned off my the module, but than thought what if I substituted my fog light with a LED. Since to runs the fogs at 100% the LED bulbs should look OK.

i got my car from the philadelphia- a 2005 tl non navi anthracite grey . sick car.
anyways i needed the riv inspection and nobody was willing to put the module onto the headlights. so i asked them to put it through the fog lights(they didnt think of it!) and they do it through the rear defogger(into the fuse box).seems to be working. i am guessing its not the traditional way to hook up the drl.

Ok, seems that you are a bit confused.......
the DRLs are automatically turned on, powering the when the engine ignition is on, and they go off when the HIDs are on, BUT, you have the same control over them with the OEM fog light switch once the headlights are on, so the DRL module at that point is bypassed entirely.
So when the headlights are on, you can turn on and off the fogs just as you would normally.
Hope that clears it up for you

Anyone try this new module? I still have the old drl module from autobarn (IIRC) which operates at 75%.
With above question, I could be wrong, but I doubt it...you can set your trigger on to be anything (hence the wiper motor since it gets power as soon as car is on), you can set your OFF trigger to anything (normally lows, but can be parking light, I bet) and you can set WHICH lights turn on to any of them.
This is in theory, since I've never tried but I don't see why it wouldn't work unless there's a voltage requirement that is not met or overdone on any of those wires.

I still have the autobarn module going strong...
I do have a question for you lighting gurus...
is there an LED bulb that would work with these 75% intensity DRL modules!?!? I tried one set of bulbs but they'd stay on dimly even when the car was off and then not really light up. I wonder if the $60 VLED ones would work fine...I also want to make sure I end up getting 6000 kelvin color.

I got a $25 a year discount on my insurance for installing the DRL module that started this thread.

I recently installed the Grote 44040 DRL Module couple months ago and couldn't be happier. I installed them on my fogs and replaced the lights with 5000K HID. In my opinion this was the best solution, I’m able to use HID because the module runs at 100% power and I’m not blinding oncoming traffic since they’re in angled in the fog position. The HIDs are also more functional than LEDs b/c they offer superior lumens compared to your standard LED replacement (just to get the color to match). I would strongly recommend going this route.

Alas, after about 3 years, my 20013 module stopped working. My auto electrical guy checked it out and determined the signal from the white wire was the part that failed. Been trying all over the net to find an exact replacement, but to no avail. Called the Grote people and they say their module cannot be wired into the fog lights. I'd really prefer to have the fogs at 75% rather than full brightness or the HID's used as DRL's.
Any suggestions?

After searching all over (internet) creation, there's no place that makes a direct replacement for the 20013 module. I even called an Acura dealer in Canada to see what they do for US models that relocate up there and was told they use the Hamsar 45040 module which lights the fogs at 100% brightness. Tech support at Hamsar confirms that that module is the only one they have that works with our TL's. The units they have that light at reduced intensity have reliability issues with the '04/5/6 TL. Their products are actually made in Canada, not China so I think they'll be more reliable

save your money. build your own DRL controller. easy. like $25 for the relays. If you want the relay harness so you dont have to make your own crimp connectors, then add another 20. But it's easy. If your an Engineer ***smirk*** or even a sr. engineer

anyone tried converting the actual wiring in the tl 2004-2006?
just by looking at the DRL and FOGs diagram, the DRL relay goes right where the FOGs relay is, and it's only 20.00 dollars at the dealer.
unless there is more involved...please let me know.

If you figure that out, you'd be a hero on Acurazine...even moreso than Roger555 for figuring out the resistor thing for hyperblink.
forgot to update mine...swapped from Nokya yellow DRL to some LED ones from Unique Style Racing a while back.

On my car, I did not use the Foglight switch for the 9005 DRLs because I just relocated the fog light circuit to the lower foglight position. I created a new circuit for the DRL's. I connected the 9005 bulbs in series just like the factory 07/08's. The difference between the DRL's and Foglights is not in the fuse size or the relay, or even the bulb wattage because the 9006 foglights are only 55w whereas the DRL 9005's are 65w.. The difference is in the wiring. That is, series vs. parallel. Move/connect the + wire from one bulb to the negative of the other one so they are in series. This will increase the resistance of the circuit and reduce the current and power. And to prove that current is reduced when these bulbs are in series, I am powering my 9005's with a 10amp fuse. Now remember, the fuse is not dictating how much the bulbs want to burn. but rather if the bulbs were trying to pull 20 amps and the fuse was only 10amps, then the fuse would pop. But these bulbs don't pull that much current. They don't even pull that much current in parallel. So why Acura put a 20amp fuse in there, I do not know. It's more than double what any bulbs will pull in series or parallel. No wonder the headlights were melting in one case. Because the circuit and the bulbs and the wires had no problem with burning that hot. However, the bulbs automatically burn colder when you place them in series because the resistance is 4 times greater than when bulbs are in parallel. This reduces current and power output and the voltage drop over each bulb becomes only 6v instead of 12v.
I could have used a 20amp fuse or even a 7 or maybe even a 5amp fuse because the DRL's do not draw much current and they surely are not burning at 65watts. if so, they would also burn up the headlights because the foglights are only 55w bulbs and they will burn up an 07/08 headlight if wired in parallel. So, my 10amp fuse is just a sign that the bulbs are pulling less than 10amps.
Funny thing is, I bought new 9005's when I could have reused my 9006's. Physical size is the same, and the real power output is reduced by placing these bulbs in parallel. So, my 9005's are not burning at 65w. I could have used the 55w 9006 if I had not purchased all the equipment in advance of my calculations. Oh well. It only cost about another $35 during the conversion. And I still have the 9006 bulbs if I ever need them.
But anyway... Just rewire your foglights to be in series and you will be fine if you want to use the foglight circuit and the foglight switch for your DRL's. I used 2 relays instead so when I turn my key to the On position, the DRL's come on. And when I turn my headlights On, the DRL's turn off. I could have wired a separate switch to my instrumentation panel, but I choose to automate it. And I was keeping Foglights.. And I want my foglight switch to run my foglights.. makes sense to me. Especially since the DRL's are automated in the 07 and 08's too. But I could still install a manual switch to turn on the "automation" or turn off the automation. Lots of options.

even though I created another operating circuit or controller circuit for my drls, I still wired them in series. That's the key.

I think he meant being able to put in the newer relay from a TL with the DRL that comes with the car and getting it to function the same way on the older TL. Not just reusing the fog switch for on/off.
I agree though, I wired in a switch to be able to kill them too...sometimes you want your car looking sinister!

The relays might even be identical. I have not seen the 07/08s in real life. only on paper. And on paper I think they are represented the same way. I am at work right now. So I dont have the book in front of me. But also, the schematic I have seen for DRL's are actually the Canadian DRL's because my book is 04 to 06.
By the way, I tried to use the Canadian wiring method for my DRLs.. but I could not get to the backside of the "under hood fuse box" because of the harness is so tightly interlaced. I raised one side but it was too tight and too greasy (dielectric) to flip over and inspect. So, I just made my own circuit with 2 relays.

Hey Gator
I have been looking at this website for some time but just joined today because I actually have a question or a how to. I just got my Grote 44040 from Amazon yesterday but am hesitant to wire the three so that I don't make a mistake. Could you send me a few screen shots on installing this?
Thanks
