Lack of vehicle conspicuity is a large road safety problem judging both from accident statistics in the world, from accident-in-depth studies, and from road user explanations of collisions. One way to increase vehicle conspicuity also in daytime conditions is to equip the front of the vehicles with lights. In this report lights with this purpose are called Daytime Running Lights (DRL). Initially the variables that will influence vehicle daytime front conspicuity are analyzed. The results of various experimental studies are summarized. It is concluded that lights are an effective measure provided they have certain technical characteristics concerning intensity, light distribution, colour, number etc. Accident statistics from Finland, Sweden, Norway, USA where comparisons of vehicles with and without DRL have been carried out support the concept. The reduction of the daytime collisions due to DRL is estimated to be in the size of 10 percent. The reduction of daytime collisions between cars and unprotected road users is even larger.

No idea why need install daylight kit. I usually just turn
the headlight on all the time because after you shut off the engine, headlights will automatically shut off in 10 seconds.

I think it is more of a want than a need

Just installed mine this afternoon after I got home, took me like 90 minutes, but I really took my time because I'm no super electrician and I didn't want to mess anything up. Everything worked fine the first time. I left my loop attached so there is the delay on/off. They look really nice too. It will be easy to tell mine from the many other TL's now also! Snapped a shot for all to see!!
Any questions somebody has from an ameature just let me know!

Looks awsome.............I have some yellow glass paint left over, I feel like being cheap and painting both bulbs, and doing a photoshoot, I will keep you guys informed.....
Acura should have made this an OEM option like on the new civic, and the RLs........

Just a quick recap/question: With this mod, the DRLs will automatically turn off by itself when the HIDs come on (with no way of having both the HIDs and the DRLs on at a time?) Sorry, I'm really interested in this mod but wish to sometimes have both lights on while driving at night, especially where I live.
Great job though. You really made another breakthrough for the Forums and proved once again that these forums do prove to be quite useful.

the DRLs are automatically turned on, powering the when the engine ignition is on, and they go off when the HIDs are on, BUT, you have the same control over them with the OEM fog light switch once the headlights are on, so the DRL module at that point is bypassed entirely.
So when the headlights are on, you can turn on and off the fogs just as you would normally.
Hope that clears it up for you

This looks like a cool mod! Thanks for the fantastic write-up.
I have an idea regarding that circuit loop that puts a 20-second delay on everything. What would happen if you wired a relay to close that loop when the ignition is on? It seems that would delay the DRLs turning on by 20 seconds, but they'd turn off instantly with the car.

One more thing...I bet the same relay trick could be used to make them come on right away, but stay on with a delay if the relay was a normally-closed one.
I just ordered my DRL module. Thanks for heads-up with the 10% discount.

Autobarn...
I didn't know it was going to take this long since their website gives a timeframe on when it'll ship... I'm actually moving this Friday so I was hoping to receive it by then.

Regarding their functionality...With this mod, does the headlight indicator on the speedo still function as stock? In other words, it only lights when the markers or headlights are on, right?

I finally received and installed the module. the model I got is 20013VA, apparently it's same without the greep loop wire and has fixed delay about 10 seconds. I tapped the blue wire to red/black stripe wire (park light), had to take out battery to access the wire, but didn't need to extend the blue wire from the module... however, the 10 seconds delay makes this not optimal setup.

CaryTL,
I saw on the site the unit you got only has three wires. I am assuming one is hot (+), one is ground (-), but what is the third wire? Ignition sense? Fog light hot side?
It just seems mike there is not enough wires from that unit to do the job. It would seem that you would still need a headlight low on sensing wire, foglight hot wire and an ignition sense wire.

davenlei,
the picture they have on their page is not actual module picture. the only difference is there's no green loop wire that you can cut to remove the on/off delay. other 5 wires are exactly same.

I just got the same thing yesterday. In my curiousity, I popped open the case with a penknife. The green wireloop is inside.
Also, the whole circuit board (it's not just a simple relay but a circuit board with a triac and other parts) is 'potted'. That is, it is covered completely with epoxy in order to make it immune to water and corrosion.

Some additional points.
1. It's a good idea to put a rag or cloth down in that hole that you pull the tube from. This is the air intake. This will keep you from dropping any parts down in there. (Don't ask me how I know.)
2. Do the battery hookup (red wire) last, or pull the fuse. This keeps everything unpowered until you are finished.
