DIY Brake Job
Hey All,
It has come time to replace my brake pads and rotors on my 2007 Acura TL.
How easy are they to replace? I have seen plenty of videos and feel confident I can do it, but do I need to bleed the brakes or can I just replace the pads and rotors without bleeding the brakes?
Also what are you thoughts on good brakes? My mechanic charges 350-380 for all 4 rotors and pads replaced with basic parts.
Thanks

Its easy, but absolutely needs to be done properly since its heavily related to safely.
You can pick and choose any rotor you want (rockauto? parts store?). I suggest buying coated ones.
Pads are what makes the major impact on braking performance/feel/etc/etc.
I recommend buying a decent set of semi-metallic pads. Advance Auto's "silver" grade pads have been a proven winner for me. I don't recommend ceramic pads at all. But if you want ceramic, the factory (genuine Acura) pads are the best overall pad for this car.
You don't need to bleed brakes in order to do pads/rotors. But brake fluid absolutely should be fully flushed/replaced every 2yrs to prevent a myriad of issues. Regardless of miles. The fluid absorbs moisture. So...it needs periodic refreshing. A good DOT3 fluid is all you need for street use.
Your mechanic's pricing is fine. Go with it if you feel more comfortable having them handle it.
