Dirty windows with tint

Hey, anyone here get an older car tinted, and come to find there are residue spots all over?

I tried cleaning the inside windows before tinting, and it would not come off. I figured the tint place would clean it up then tint. Was there no way for them to get it off, or did they just go ahead with the tint as is?

I was looking at my car today in the light of the sun, and you could sooo clearly see all the water looking spots all over the windshield, and it just looks plain dirty.

Do I have to live with this? This is an 04 tl recently purchased. I read somewhere that this is normal residue that cannot be prevented, but I wanted to make sure.

You don't tint the windshield.

It really depends. I think you're seeing dried water spots, yeah? On an older car sometimes the glass has stains and imperfections that tinters just can't remove, so what you're seeing could very well be unavioidable. However, an 04 TL shouldn't really have this problem. There's a chance that the water was dirty so you're seeing the after affects.

I won't be able to say for sure with out pics. Is it all over the entire pane?

im thinking there has to be a way to get that off. With nail polish remover or something of that effect.

If that is on the actual window (under the tint)...I'd have that redone!...there's no reason why a 2004 MY car should have tints with glass marks underneath it

If you just got it tinted, give it a few days or a week or so. It should clear up, if not take it back!

True, but usually they tell you give it a few days or so. If you leave it out in the sun it might dry up... : /

I had this same "water spots" on my 94 Accord back in the day. I used everything! Then when I was getting my car fixed from I asked the body shop if there is anyting that can remove hard water spots. Ding ding! there is. Its been a while and I cant remember the brand but it look alot like A-Jax. First you get a damp cloth and dip it into the powder and rub your ass off. IMO it sorta worked like a funky wet sandpaper compound that cleans up ANY glass. to do all 6 windows and windshids it took me about 3 days. Very labor intensive. Sorry I cant remember the name of the product but its been years since ive last used it. If anyone one knows what im talking about please chime in. Hope this helps.

man, that sounds helpful, if anyone knows what it is? I was thinking more along the lines of nail polish remover. But from the sounds of it, it doesnt seem that will be strong enough.

if its calcium, you can try vinegar; but keep it away from the painted surfaces

Wow i didnt know Clay bar would get rid of water spots. I guess if its good enough for your paint it should be good enough for glass.

In my quest to get rid of water spots I've tried, CLR, Vinegar, windex, auto-motive glass cleaner and a few other things i cant remember right now. It was like 5-6 things ive used and nothing did the job until i got that glass cleaner compound. Try Clay bar, it sounds like it will work.

ok, update on my windows. I found out that it is not on the inside, but the residue is on the outside. It seem to be some sort of pollen or salt or something, and there is nothing i can do to get it out up to this point. Ive used nail polish remover, gasoline, window cleaning fluids, everything. It seems to be all over my car. It was covered in pollen when I got it, and now it is stained all over the car. I just bought this car a week and a half ago, and at this point it really sucks.

I used to use scotchbrite?? pads to remove water spots, but that was on an older car.
never had a problem with scratching the windows that I could detect.
Maybe try it in a small area to see it that works for you?

ok , so update on my windows. I brought my car to the auto detailer, and he said that he could get the residue out. It is called a "compound polish". Basically what happened to my car is the sprinkler got on the car along with the pollen and basically embedded itself in the glass. The whole compound polish is gonna cost me $300, but it is better than getting new windows and tint. I will keep you posted.
