Did you know I have a switchblade key project going?

There is no need to hack up the factory key and swap immobilizer. The switchblade key can be programmed using the factory key.
There is a difference in price between memory 1 and 2 switchblades so that needs to be considered. I currently have a mem 1 and depending on price would like to complete the set.

Okay well that clears it up a little bit. I'm only interested in Mem 1 since I'm really the only one who drives the car. So im going to be sending him $150 as soon as he gives word that everything is a go

There is no difference in cost on the mems and you can get whatever one you need. We got it under control.

Yeah I am planning on trying it in my integra. Should be a good tester. My cylinders are really worn so if it works in my car then it should work in any respectable sub-200,000 mile Honda

I JUST bought my 05 TL yesterday so I'm not sure how I can tell whether or not I'm a 1M or a 2M.
And when I say I just bought it I'm talking about the car was certified, I drove it, bought it, and had to leave it in ATL for it to be detailed before I can take it home. What a rush though.
I'm in for the switchblade. I HATE FOBS!

1- take the car and the key to the dealer and have them program it for you.
2- hack up a key that you have that starts the car and swap the immobilizer chip from it to the sw key.
1- is the cleaner way but costs more.
2- certainly will work but besides it being a pain in the ass you might screw something up. which is why I considered doing it for people.
So no, there is not a specific need to swap the immobilizer if you choose option 1.

When you do your test fit on the 3rd Gen TL's....note that the key also needs to fit cleanly into the glove box lock and the pass thru door lock in the back seat. They can appear to fit fine in ignition and doors....but when you try them on those two things...they suddenly fit too tight. I remember FLBUSA having that issue at first and having to refigure the cut. His first runs worked in doors and ignitions fine...but were too tight in the glovebox and passthru gate door locks due to some very odd unique cut in the key or something. He was able to work it out though in then end.
Just mentioning it so you can cover all your P's and Q's before an issue arises later. Testing it on an integra doesnt mean it will work on all the 3rd Gen TL's glovebox doors and passthru gate doors....unless they also have em too and use the same locksets types.

True I have never used those locks once but MichaelBenz still brings up a valid point and I would like to be able to use the key in those locks if the time should come. Anyways keep us posted Marcus, I can't wait!

The switchblade key has an immobilizer in it already. If you want to use the key in another car with an immobilizer you have 2 choices:
1- take the car and the key to the dealer and have them program it for you.
2- hack up a key that you have that starts the car and swap the immobilizer chip from it to the sw key.
1- is the cleaner way but costs more.
2- certainly will work but besides it being a pain in the ass you might screw something up. which is why I considered doing it for people.

Thank you very much for your excellent explanations. However, I still have another question. What do you mean by if i want to use the key in "another car with an immobilizer" ??
#101
Basically....that means YOUR car. Its what it takes to make it work on YOUR car. Its a new immobilizer thats unprogrammed into your car. It will still need to be mated to your car via a programmer that most locksmiths and all dealers have. Its not expensive (usually if you find a fair dealer/locksmith) because it only takes like two minutes to do....seriously. It just takes the special equipment....but its VERY easy to add.

Test key milled and cut. It works perfect in every cylinder in my car, including the glove and tailgate. The problem of it not fitting in valet cylinders was probably because the other key was milled to thick. There is kind of an involved milling procedure on these involving 3 different holder positions.
Look for order details soon.

Does anyone know if this will work in an 05 Acura EL? (Canadian only model of the civic) or the 04/05 civics? I know I'd need a key with a Honda emblem instead of acura, but I'm sure more people would like these keys.
