Did Few Runs with 07 3.5 Altima

ok, my friend just fincanced an 07 3.5Altima after getting rid of his 2.5ALtima.
So, we thought to do some runs on Jones Beach Road LI. The dude dont know how to use the Triptonic since he didnt have it before. He thought All you have to do is just bring the stick to Left and dont have to push it up and down, it will work it self LOL (He told me that after the race)
ANy ways We did 1st Run from 30mph to 110. I kept my car on 3rd while ofcourse his stated at 5th. 3 honks i was out putting enough car lengths just because dude didnt know what he was doing. I knew something was wrong but i didnt wanna tell him .
We did a second run from dead stop up to 110, i used my best launching VSA OFF 1-2 D3. Shutdown!
That way i had 2 car lengths on him from the beginning than i think it might have closen up not sure.
HIs was of launching was Stay in Automatic and his traction was ON.

So the Ending is, he is pretty impressed by 260HP TL than a 270HP ALtima.
I know it was cheating but heyy... Anything is fair in love and Race!

CHEATER!! hahaha

Edit: Teach him how to use SS mode and do a real race, my friend test drove a 3.5 and said the CVT transmission killed the performance...?

Less Weight than a TL. More HorsePower and Torque than a TL. You do the math, it can do enough damage to a tl. and if its 6MT

I used to drive a 5.5 gen Maxima before having to replace it after a wreck. That car was 15hp less than the new altima (without taking consideration to the new SAE standard), and that thing could smoke any stock third gen. I'm dead sure any stock altima with the vq35de would smoke any stock third gen TL.

Not with the Right Driving it wont. It will get lead and will maintain about 2 to 3 car lengths but i dont Think SMOKE is the word should be used here. Nissan Have Mad load of Torque in their engines Compare to Honda. But not in a amount that it would SMOKE a tl. IF Same Skilled Drivers Drive 6MT Maxi and 6MT 3G, the outcome can be 2 to 3 Car lengths to Maxima.
I am still not sure about the Highway Rolls. It can be a different story. By the way im only talking about the 5.5 Maxima!

If any of you NYC folks are interested, tomorrow is Honda day at Englishtown (NJ) tomorrow. I will be there (07 AV6 EX-L) with my son (98 Civic EX -- baselining before his turbo install). Gates open at 9:00a.

With an auto tranny and with the exception of the 3G TL-S, I would agree with that statement. (I being a former 02 Maxima SE owner myself.) My 5.5G had more problems battling the 02-03 TL-S than it ever had against any NA 3G AT. I imagine the same would apply to the Altima 3.5 (SL, SE, SE-R)

But MT vs MT, it would be a VERY close battle...with the edge likely going to the better driver.

Sidenote on lostkahn's Altima friend: his VQ35 will become notably quicker after the break in period.

MASSIVE bog down at the line. Best I could do was 16.3 @ 88mph. The only time my Maxima EVER ran that slow was when the MAF sensor blew at the 1/8 mile mark, with inertia giving me a 16.4 sec ET and the win still. That said, I pretty much bought the Accord knowing it had nowhere near the drag performance of the Max....but, I have no regrets on the trade up.

Sidenote: A LOT of cars seem to be running slower than they should...including several new Si Civics running in the low 17s.

OMG! Was this due to the humidity? Was there any other cars, besides the Si, running that far off? 16.3, isnt that like more than a full second off? I thought they were good for a 14.9-15.2.

I'm alittle tired. I just realized that you said that alot of cars were running slower than normal. Ignore my previous post. I've got to get to bed.

I guesstimated that I should have run low 15s as well NOT mid 16s. It seems that off the line, it just did not want to go. (Almost like my car wanted to think about it first and then go....hence the fairly high trap.) I made one run with it and posted 16.3X and my son made a run and posted a near identical 16.3X, noting the same, miserable off the line bogdown.

While I have no illusion of this car being quicker than my old Maxima, I KNOW it is MUCH quicker than 16.3. NOTE: I ran in D3 w/VSA off, which worked great in my Maxima. Maybe I should try in regular D next time.

Ouch! I never would have thought that at Englishtown. I guess it was just a bad track day for the cars since you said they were running slower. Even at 3100ft here at SIR I pulled off a 15.5@92MPH in my 03 AV6. I am glad you have no regrets though. Its a great car all around! Maybe you will do better on a different day!

Thanks. Looks like stop light derbies are now a thing of the past for me. ...the car has terrific midrange though.

Lack of low end prowess aside, I love the car. I drove to Philly and back yesterday with some spirited driving and still got a fuel economy return of 25mpg+ (peaking at 26.9mpg at one point). So, I have even less regrets when it comes to fuel economy.

Yeah too bad that won't happen....... but I really don't think you'd have a chance since I ran some 6 MT V6's..... I'm actually gonna be trading my car in for either a is350 or a 07 type s..

You should get the type-s.

It wouldn't matter if I win or lose I just want to race you. Ive taken out a stock 03 TL-S so I wouldn't get my ass kicked. A guy on our website just ran a 14.23@97MPH with a 2.0 60ft in his 6spd accord stock. One of the fastest times recorded for a stock 6spd. I was happy to see that.

Good question. It says street radials in his profile but I will have to ask him. Here is the link to his timeslips.

Thanks for the link, looks like the time is pretty consistent as well. I could only imagine that, if a stock V6 6MT Accord can do that, then the TL 6MT and TL-S 6MT must be even faster than that, if driven properly.
