Does the lip serve any aerodynamical purpose? I've heard that it does not, that it's just for looks. I've read that the m3 coupe comes with a lip, so I just assumed that it did do something.

Black's one of the few colors I like the wing on...
It seems the members here are more partial towards the lip spoiler - I have an 06 NBP with aspec body kit and the wing spoiler...never seen any of those around my part so it's unique

I like both of them. I hard a hard time deciding which one to go with. I finally went with the wing, as it makes the car sportier looking. The rear lip looks awsome on it though.
Now I would go with the CF lip from Versus if I was going to do it now. Since I had to drill holes in the trunk lid, I don't think I will change it out. I don't really think that the factory wing is to much for this car, its just the right hieght and size. It does block view a little bit, but no worse then the back headrest. But hell, I could have gone with a combat GTR wing on it!!!!! guys!!!

acutally it does serve an areodynamic job, at highter speeds, air will hit the wing/lip and force it to create a downforce. This downforce ggives better handling and more stablity when going over about 80mph

Lip!!
I actually got a lip spoiler from e-bay for my NBP ($25), and installed it myself (~$20) for 3M tape, cleaning supplies and drill bits. It looks sharp! Installation is easy!

Go with the wing, it does block your view some. The lip doesn't add anything to the TL you can hardly tell you got something back there.
If your going to do a spoiler why not get the best looking, which is the wing. If your on the edge then don't get anything at all.

Here is a pic with lip spoiler on my car that has the Aspec kit minus the rear piece.
