Question Dealer markup on add-ons???

I'm looking to buy an 06 TL AT with navi and want to also get some of the additional spoilers (front, rear, side, & deck) along with body side molding and a i-Pod connector.

The dealer says this is $2000+ worth of parts and says that the lowest he can go is $35300 for the car with all of that ($33300 selling + $2000 for parts & installation). That still seems high to me. I think in addition to the $480 over invoice price (not even counting any dealer holdback - 3%?), he's trying to pad the install by $500-700.

This seems probable after checking the forums here today and seeing that a lot of people have purchased A-SPEC kits with the underbody spoilers for @ $750. And I've seen the deck spoiler selling on the web & ebay for $290-$320. The body side molding is typically $140 or less and the i-Pod connector is @ $200. And you know these 20-30% off prices still make money for these dealerships - so cost has to be a bit less than that. (I'm thinking an overall margin of 40-50%.)

So does anybody know the actual markup/margin on these type of parts? And any comments on what would be a better price to shoot for?

Thanks!!!

I was looking for the same information when I purchased my TL. My dealer wanted over $550 for just the front spoiler from the A-Spec package and almost $200 for the block heater. I said no thanks on both I will put them on myself.

Unfortunatly, I learned that dealer cost/invoice is not published for parts like it is for the vehicle. Your only recourse is to look around for the best deal. Keep in mind that if you find price on the web you will still need to add in labor for the dealer install.

Hope this helps

I went and got the aftermarket prices on the same exact parts on the web and used the prices I could buy them for to negotiate the dealership down. They absolutely mark these up an astronomical amount, it's where they make the most $$. Especially if you get a good price on the car which many people seem to since we all know what we should pay these days, expect to get taken to the cleaners on the accessories, but do what many do and buy them yourself on the aftermarket, you can still get a dealer to install for you and just pay their shop labor rate and it will end up being a lot cheaper.

Talking For The Best Price On A Tl!!

Hi, I am actually new to this forum but I have good news for you!! I bought my '05 TL NAVI. last Aug. I have a 5AT wht/par. with: the side, front, rear, under, and deck lid spoilers. Also the Aspec badge. So, an A-spec minus wheels and suspension. I love this car, I used to have a 2000 325i BMW.
I was a stickler on the price! I went from dealership to dealership (the going price for the 5AT wht/par. was anywhere from $700-2000 above invoice, Invoice was $32,555.00 and MFSG was $35,500.00. Here is how you get the best price, believe me I spent serious time on this!! 1st start with an email to a dealership and see what they offer for the base model you want. Now send the next dealer an email stating you are interested in a TL (you own a competitor brand) and the best price you found is $300 less than the other dealership offered. Contiue this until you find the best price.
Guess what?? I played this game a few days before the end of the month. On the last day of the month (when Acura is fighting each other for end of month sales numbers) I got the best possible deal!
Invoice Baby!! Two of five dealers will willing. They will do it on the last day if you have them a few hundred over invoice! Use email though.
Now as for the A-spec stuff. I even got that for invoice except for the lid and Aspec badge (the dealer wont get you the badge and they wanted more $$ for the lid. If you are not able to buy the Aspec stuff from the dealer for the price listed on ebay, buy it on ebay and pay the dealer for install!
PS, the base TL is nice, but with the ASPEC addition turns heads!

And now I am ready to begin adding some extra ponys to my stallion! Happy shopping!

Talking Addition To Best Price Tl (chicago)

ALSO, I just noticed you are from Chicago! I bought from Libertyville at invoice. The other dealership that was willing was the Manchester (I think that was the name of the dealership, or close to that). And Schaumburg was the worst for price. Skokie or is it the Highland park location on RT 41 would go $500 over invoice.
Again, You can get it for invoice, play hard and remember that they do get their 3% hold back!
