Dealer adds...upholstery protection, underbody, etc.?
First time new car owner, first time Acura owner.
Just purchased '07 TL w/ Navi. Part of the dealer pitch was to offer a "comprehensive package of protection." This included underbody, leather and paint. Through my research and what I have always heard was to not take any of these dealer adds at the point of sale. Reasoning is that with the quality of today's cars it was not necessary. I turned the additional "pretection" down.
I'd like to understand other's perspective on this - have people accepted this type of thing, and if so, why? Has anyone turned it down and later wished they'd had it done? For those that had this done - what did they pay and what was included? Any feedback is appreciated.

I never knew they had a under body and leather protection. Unless the under body were just mudguards? The paint protection sounded like a good deal to me. I asked the dealer what the paint protection was, and he basically told me if you get any chips or nicks on your car, they or someone will come fix it up for you.

Congrats, and welcome to AZ.
Good work on turning down the "protection!"
No, I've never paid for a "protection package" since it's usually just leather and fabric protectant you would get at an auto parts store for about $5 per can/bottle. I think it was about $250 when it was offered on a 1991 Camry I bought for my dad back then. It's just a huge profit center for the dealers.
The Camry was pristine without the protection package in 2005, and now resides with a brother-in-law.

You did good. While the products are not necessarily worthless junk, they are not worth the price the dealer charges.
IOW - you can but a can of ScotchGuard for a lot less than $300.

only protection package I would get is the tire one, it can save alot of money in the long run. My cousin had a nail in the outer edge of the tire and had to get the tire replaced, and he had the Pilot sports A/S, which are fairly expensive. He showed the tire protection and got the tire for free, and the warranty covers the other 3 tires and the new one. It cost him 100 dollars for the warranty and the tire would have been around 300 dollars.
