Custom Third Brake Light by AckTL05.
#125
I got my TYPE-S brake light cover and tried it both on the inside and outside of the rear window. I ordered a new one through Ack to have one made to fit inside the rear window. Some people have commented on the quality of vinyl tint Ack' uses and its a thicker, def higher quality material. No complaints here!
Below is a pic of my "highly modded 3rd brake light"...LOL (yea...well I actually hacked it up quite a bit to fit it in my 3rd brake light. I took "thin" white paper and placed it behind the "TYPE-S" so you can see the black/white contrast on the Type-S.

Sorry I do not. I originally installed the "Type-S" 3rd brake light cover on the outside of the glass and never took pics at night or during the day but it looked great!! I ordered another one from Acktl05 to put inside the 3rd brake light cover. I should be receiving it within the next day or 2. Thanks...

Crappy iPhone pic but there it is. The S looks weird but in person it doesnt look like that. Everything looks kinda washed out but again its from my phone it looks much better in person.

So with the ones designed for the "inside-mount", you still stick them to the window, rather than the lens cover, correct? So no worries about melting?
Do they fit totally inside the cover? Wondering cause the edges of my cover look f'd, like they've seen too much sun or something...that Type-S pic a few posts back, looks almost like the edge is carbon fiber-ish...my edge looks borderline-dry-rot-ish... Thinking I might kill two birds with one stone, but either way, I guess I can do something with it while I've got it unmounted...

1. I left my 3rd brake light cover on and slid in the type s brake light decal.
2. Then I went outside the car to make sure it was aligned perfectly.
3. Then I took a pencil and traced the decal around the 3rd brake light housing.
4. I cut off the excess with an exacto knife, removed the 3rd brake light cover and installed the vinyl decal to the rear glass.
I've had mine on the inside of the glass for over a month now and still looks great. I dont quite understand the question about the "carbon fiber-ish." Hope this helps!~

What I mean is, in the second "imageshack" picture...the edge of the housing, where it's flush with the glass...and also a thin line extending out from either side of the top of the housing, running just above the defroster grid and just below the "blakckout strip" at the top of the window...it has a pattern to it, like carbon fiber. Mine doesn't look like that, not that I recall anyway (not standing behind the car atm). But, mine's not a Type S, either...
BTW, your paint looks awesome in that pic, you can really see the flecks. I need to find a good detail shop, I think the previous owner of my car was a

Thanks, yes that helps *a lot*...although now I'm confused about the carbon fiber thing, too

Thanks, i love the color also!~ The grid you are talking about is factory. Hmm...is it only for Type S'? Either way it wouldnt make a difference on the inside. Still would look good i think.

^^^I dont know how it would look honestly. It would be worth a try I think. Shouldn't be too expensive and I think it would be worth it to go custom to see how it will turn out.

3rd Brake Light Mod Mirrored
This is the 3rd brake light mod with it installed on the inside of the window. I cut it a little short so theres light coming out the edges but I think it looks kinda cool, what yall think? Pretty simple to install, cept it was like 100 degrees the day I installed, so that it made it a lil more tricky. Thanks a lot Ack!!
