The Curse is Over....A Story of the End.

The Curse is Over....A Story of the End.
FYI, this is going to be a long read, so you TL;DR guys can just skip to the pics if you want.......
On Saturday night Nicole (GF) and I went to a wedding for a friend of her's that was out in the sticks in Southwick, MA. On our way home around 11pm I took back roads so that I didn't have to back track through Mass to get back to CT. The road we were on I had driven maybe three or four times and it's very rural, mostly tobacco fields then over a mountain, then more tobacco fields. Just before going over the mountain there was a very gradual right hand turn, Nicole and I were just talking, listening to some music with the roof open and I looked at her for a split second and when I looked up it was already too late. That gradual right hand didn't give way to the two mile long straight that went over the mountain, it gave way to a 90* right hand turn just before it. I was doing (myself and the cops estimated) around 45-50 when I discovered that I was inevitably going off the left hand side of the road. All I could do was mash the brakes, but by the time I did I was already going off and because of all the rain we had last week the ground was really soft and all the car did was slide. First into a small drainage ditch that was about a foot and a half deep and maybe three feet wide, then through a small vegetable garden headed directly for a small shed that was already on Nicole's side of the car and because of the trajectory the car was traveling, there was no way I was going to steer the car to the right of it and the only place I had to go was to the left of it and immediately to the right of the tree line. So I guess I steered INTO the understeer, if that makes sense and the car missed the shed but hit a small birch tree that was about 6-8" around almost dead center in the front, deploying the airbags and stopping the car.
Remarkably, I was the one freaking out and Nicole was the one calming me down. I immediately called the police and they were there shortly after. I was honestly expecting MAYBE one or two cops and an ambulance, but there were about six or seven police cars, an EMT in an Expedition with some bad ass LED spotlights on it, and an Ambulance. So I guess the Town of Suffield Connecticut rolls deeper than I thought, but I'm glad they got there as quickly as they did.
By the time Nicole and I were done getting checked out, the EMT in the Expedition with the bad ass LED spot lights had one end of a strap hooked up to the birch tree that was now under my car and the other end to the push bar on the front of the truck, put it in reverse and yanked it out so the flat bed could get in there to pull it out from where it was wedged.
Luckily Nicole's sister didn't live far and she and her boyfriend gave and got us and took us home. I spent the rest of the night replaying the tape in my head trying to figure out how this happened. I have done a lot of stupid shit in my life when I was younger but this was nothing like that. I wasn't speeding, I was paying attention accept for that split second, I know the limitations of my car and NEVER have I even come close to losing control of that car. I still have no explanation other than the fact that it was just her time, and hopefully the end of The Curse. I am 100% without a doubt getting the next car blessed by the way.
Met the insurance adjuster this morning and saw the car for the first time after the accident in the daylight, and this is the aftermath..............

I am very grateful that Nicole and I walked away from this unscathed with the exception of a couple airbag burns and some soreness and that for just once, The Curse that was this car gave something back instead of just taking.

Whole. E. Crap.
I'm sorry this happened. Such unfortunate alignment of all the wrong things.
Glad to see you and your lady in good health. You're an icon among these forums, would hate to see you lost.

Yeah man I hear you. No matter how attentive you are and no matter how skilled or experienced you are....that second is all it takes.

Dude! The roof is untouched!
No seriously, The TL did exactly as designed and protected the occupants! It can be replaced. Your safety in that situation is what counts. A rare color looks to be retired. Get another and pick up right where you left off!

I'm so sorry to see this. I always loved your TL and just about everything you'd done to it.
Glad you and your lady are okay!
PS. I really think you should do a bit of a part out and get as much money as you're entitled to out of the car before moving on. It should be worth your time.

Wow, that is crazy. I took your advice and skipped to the pics...then after seeing the first pic I said "NOPE! Gotta read what happened."
I'm glad you and your gf were okay. That's all that matters.

Wow, I knew your screen name sounded familiar, when i saw the pics i instantly recognized you as one of the TL's I used to sweat in a major way early on. Sad to see it go, but glad you're ok and very glad you're going to be able to move onto something else!
You that that thing set up so nicely!

More importantly, you and your girl are OK, that's all that matters right now.
We'll always have pics of one of the sweetest 3G TL on the 'zine, but at the end of the day cars can be replaced, you and your GF cannot.
Best of luck with the new ride, whatever you decide to get!

I'm so sorry to see your TL go. I think it was THE cleanest DGP on the site. I'm glad you and your girlfriend are alright.
So what's next?

Same here. When I saw the pics, I didn't think it too bad (looked like F/R bumper damage and hood damage along with the driver's side door), but I guess it depends on how old the car is and mileage. Good luck in the search for a replacement.

Just the CF CSL trunk spoiler.
Out in the boonies in Suffield, CT.
No, not TL shopping, lol. Funny story though, my has been selling cars at Sunnyside Acura in NH for around 16 years, and yesterday morning she text bombed me saying "JUSTIN CALL ME RIGHT NOW! I JUST GOT A RED 2005 TL IN AND IT WOULD BE PERFECT!"...........and I was like:
![](http://alltheragefaces.com/img/faces/png/misc-are-you-fucking-kidding-me.png)
She means well though, and I loved my car, but not enough to own it twice, lol.
![Thumbs Up](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)
I wish, but my pockets aren't that deep, lol.
BAWW...thanks man! lol![tgif](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/tgif.gif)
Seriously man, they were the kind of spot lights they mount on the A-Pillars that you can move from the inside, and there were maybe only eight LED's in the light but it was like looking into the sun. The EMT didn't know where they got them....but I'm going to find out.
Something Bavarian with six gears and three pedals. ![Wish](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/wish.gif)
Well, the speed limit there was 45 and I think I was probably doing 50. By the time I looked up and had my foot on the brake it was past the point of no return. I went back on Sunday to look at where I went off and there were no skidmarks until I was on the shoulder and off the road.
So yeah, I went into the turn too hot.
Thanks for all the kind words guys. It means a lot, and I won't be going anywhere.

That sucks man, but its good that you are both OK... My last TL got totaled and I was patient this time waiting to find the perfect car- I ended up getting the TL I have now and its way better that the first. You will find a new car to fall in love with and itll be better in the end.
