crunchy feeling when shifting - 6MT

I know it's caused by the synchros in the transmission, and it take a little time for break in. I have about 3600 miles on mine, and it's still very noticeable. On a cooler day in the 50's (I won't use the word "cold", the east coast people would jump all over my case), it doesn't seem to ever warm up, even after I have driven the car around for a while. On warmer days (70's or above), it goes away.

For those of you on the east coast with 6MT, does your transmission still feel "crunchy" when you put it into gear? How long did it take before that went away?

6MT with 304 miles on it. Today, it was 24 degrees when I got in my car. I let it idle for 3-4 minutes and then before pulling away I ran through the shift gate a little and 1st and 2nd was a bit tight. Let it idle a bit longer - mainly because the fuc*ing steering wheel was freezing and I forgot my gloves. Pulled out and on I went and after 2-3 minutes of driving the 2nd gear notchiness was gone. Of course, I only have a 2-3 minute commute to work.

50 degrees is cold??

I used to live on the east coast and I spent one winter in Indiana. Yes, 50 degrees is BBQ weather by your standards. We californians wear heavy wool coat and sip hot cocoa all day.

I never felt this was normal (crunchy / notchiness) when shifting, and I had brought the car to 2 dealers now, and they all insisted it was normal. I am still patience waiting for it to "break in" fully, but it's driving me crazy in the meantime.

yea i have about 3600 miles on my 6MT, and the notchiness in second gear went away totally, I dont experience it anymore, but it seemed like it is a gradual change over!

Thanks Joganjani. I remember reading this post... Seems a bit odd it has not gone away after so many miles. I am beginning to wonder if there's much transmission fluid left.

Does anyone know how to check transmission oil level? It wasn't in the user manual. Anyone with a service manual? Thanks.

It was 46 degrees or so here on Saturday and all sorts of people were running around with shorts on...silly Midwesterners. Although, I was out with running pants and a fleece pullover putting on the Lexol on my new TL!

All my previous cars have been manuals (Saab 9-3 SE and an Eclipse GS-T) and none of them had this notchiness; although, none of them had the short throws and the crisp short gate like the TL's 6MT either. Frankly, I'm not concerned with it and think it will work itself out after a few more miles. If not, it doesn't bother me much as it seems to only do it when it's extremely cold overnight.

I do love this TL though and the 6MT is soooooooooo smooth and crisp. Love it. Love it. Love it.
