Critics Suck!!
I find it interesting how some critics complain about type-s. I'm doing alot of research on this car before I buy it. Edmunds and car/driver both score the type-s high on consumer satisfaction. I think it was 9.3 out of 10. Sounds pretty good to me. One of the most reliable cars on the road. Then you have others bashing the car saying it looks like a lincoln fixed up with the j.c. whitney catalog. ARE YOU KIDDING ME! By the way the torque steer can't be that bad. I've driven fwd cars with more power and was never bothered by torque steer. It might be a problem if you're the type to lean your seat all the way back and drive with your wrist on top of the wheel. Some of us actually grab the steering wheel when we are hard on the throttle. Just from the short time I've been on this forum I've seen how much these cars are loved. I guess some people can find something wrong with anything.

That's their opinions. Look at the facts, test drive the car and come up with your own because those are really the ones that matter. And yes, people will find something wrong with ANYTHING.

I think you're referring to the CNet review of the Type S by that numbnut tech/car specialist that had a hard on to put Acura down.
That was/is the only negative review I've ever seen of the Type S or TL in general. Most all reviews I’ve seen or read rate the TL among the top in its class hands down.

That CNET guy got trashed on here.
Then the AZ community rallied and made SURE the '08 TL-S won the on-line Tech Car of the Year CNET poll - crushed #2 (whatever it was).

hatin' on the Japs!
Honestly, though, the TL doesn't seem to garner much attention, even the Type-S. Car&Driver hasn't done a road test on the Type-S, neither has Road and Track and Motor Trend (to my knowledge). The '09 TL should defintely change that.

About the poll, we should take in account that there are more people drive Hondas and there are more people modifying Hondas... nobody mods an LS, who is going to mod a car worth 2-3 your annual income? therefore, anybody who drives an LS drives... they dont talk about it with others online. my .02

WHAT?!?!
I am sure you mis-spoke (errr, mis-typed). NOBODY (in their right mind) even buys a car that is worth "2-3 your annual income".
Well, maybe a few single 20-somethings who still live at home, but they are not "in their right mind" by definition ( ).

To a certain extent you are correct - not nearly the sheer magnitude of numbers. But even Club Lexus had a "Vote Lexus in the CNET Poll" thread.
They're just not the fanatics Honda/Acura owners are. Oh, and CNET didn't piss in their Wheaties.

Sorry, what I meant is for the money, people don't normally buy a car that expensive. Most people make 40-50 a year than 100-120 a year; therefore, there are more cars on the worth with the price tag under 50 than there are of cars with price tags of around 100.

I have owned quite a few cars and I will say that as with any car, the appeal is based on certain factors. For example, in the later 90s the maxima was the car that offered affordable performance for the masses until the 99 225 hp TL came out. Many people who could never afford the 40K legend were buying this 28K or so car. People were quite pleased since it was better than the maxima and much better than a chevy. The rest is history with the S models and Gen3 etc. Acura also loaded up the cars with features and it was the bang for the buck. Hell I had a supercharger on mine!
Now there more competitive models are available for other manufacturers. The TL has almost a cult following to it. Yet as I havce discovered (as well as many others) that the brand has also had power train issues. The engine was always rock solid but the tranny was always problematic. That and other nagging issues as well.
I have had more service calls for problems on the acura than any other car and that has me going off in another direction. I do not want to have to deal with tranny fluids, driveline vibration, or troubleshoot the car in anyway. I have found that acura has this more than any brand that I have owned since 99.
I have my complaints about other brands as well. But they have to do with how the vehicle is set up and not how it has issues such as rattles or other failures that cannot be cured from multiple trips to the dealer. Most people buy a new car and are thrilled with it and that is what we get reports on more than longer term ownership and issues. I do not want to have to buy an extended warranty because the car is going to have hard to reproduce issues 50k miles later. Many of these issues are indicative of the brand.
The issue I see is while acura has done a good job in styling their quality has been off for several years now, while other brands have gotten better. At 40K there are so many choices out there and while some might not do a 0-60 dash as quickly as the TL, they are very close and hold up a lot better over the years.
99 tl paid issues, rattles
01 CL S Sold with original brakes at 78,000 but 3rd tranny
05 TL vibration and oil jet
05 G35 traction control came on why too early interior not as good but fixed in 07 model
07 A4 3.2 great car with 32,000 on it. Not wild about the red illumination but I have not had an issue at all with this car. Fit, finish, handling all top notch.

Now I realize this is strictly a matter of opinion and to each his own...but having owned both a G35 and a TL-S, there is NO WAY the TL-S is more fun to drive than the G35...not IMO anyway...

Although Edmunds was not thrilled with the new 2G TSX, they still offer plenty of praise of the current "old" 3G TL.

"...Unlike the Acura TL (especially in Type S) which is the best-kept secret in the sport sedan arena, the TSX lingers as a low-priced entry into the Acura brand..."
On the topic at hand most of the respected auto media complement the TL very well with the only drawback of the FWD.
In terms of quality and performance Consumer Reports in the 2008 Car Edition, had a interesting graph which showed relative performance and overall quality on a 2D graph. It then plotted the various car manufacturers, the best place to be on the graph was upper right corner (high quality and high performance). The closest to the corner was Honda (they must have combined Acura into Honda's ranking since Lexus was not in the graph either). Toyota was the same relative quality but lower in overall performance. Also BMW was up there in performance but lower in quality. Interesting analytical approach to measuring the value of a auto manufacturer.
