creaky headliner
creaky headliner
Has anybody with a 2004 TL been experiencing creaky/popping sounds in the headliner area? It usually occurs with bumps or dips. If you have this car press the area where the 2 dome lights are and it should creak by just putting some pressure on that area. I love the car with this exception. So far the dealer can't fix the problem.

I have the exact same problem with my car. The level of creaking varies with the severity of road and conditions and temperature, but it can be easily duplicated by pressing on the headliner by the dome light.
It seems as though it is simply the back surface of the headliner rubbing against the inside surface of the roof, where ideally some felt or foam should exist to separate the two surfaces.
What has the dealer tried to do to remedy the problem?
Is your car an early build number?
Please inform us of any success you may encounter with this issue.

I have the same problem. Some are from the headliner, but I have found that others sound like they are coming from the headliner, but are really the windows. The window seals are a hard plastic instead of rubber. This was the same problem on my 2003 Accord with the same types of seals. Crack open the windows and see if the creaking stops. I have found that creaking stops once the temp gets above 55.
I think most of us have experienced some sort of headliner noise or maybe we just haven't turned down that 5.1 stereo low enough to hear it. I know that I only recently started driving with the stereo off to isolate a few of my dash rattles and noticed the headliner noise.
Some have posted in the past of fixing this problem on their own with some double-faced tape or something similar. These people would prefer not to have some dirty-handed bungling techie do the work and then have grease spots all over their headliner.
Me, I just turn up the stereo a bit and if it begins to bother me more, I'll have the dealer look at when I've compiled a list of "little things wrong" to fix.
