Creaking from rear passenger area when going over bumps

Just picked up our new TL the other day and there is a loud squeaking/creaking sound coming from the rear passenger area on the driver side, it sounds like plasting creaking or plastic against leather. I love this car, but the sound is driving me crazy, especially given how bumpy Boston roads are. Does anyone have any ideas as to the cause of this problem?

Congrads to you. You will need someone to sit in the back while you drive and to listen the the area that is creaking. Many times, the creaking will resolve itself as the parts "settle". Maybe some parts were not fulling "locked in" by the factory workers. Many pieces are held on by clips that snap into place and may need a little push to fully secure. Give it a week and isolate them out on a bumpy but safe road. If they don't work out in that time, an appointment to the dealer is needed. Good luck and happy motoring.

Thanks DSC, I will definitely try that out. Despite the rattle, the car is freaking awesome.

Guru-yes I have the same thing. It's in the rear, happens on both sides and sounde like styrofoam cooler type of crackling when I back down my driveway, some turns, some bumps. I had it addressed at the dealer last week and they tried to attend to it but it's still there. A little bettter now but still there...
Anyway, the service invoice said, "removed info center and upper panel vents to add foam for crunching noise." Also, "heard some crunching noise in front R+R vent assembly to add foam tape for noise-spent lots of time relocating foam."
So they tried but they need to try again. Right now I'm more concerned about getting the subwoofer rattle fixed first then back on to the crunchy noise I hear occasionally from the back.
I know there is sound dampening "stuff" in the panels-I think it's called thinsulate. I bet that is the issue-ironically. It's supposed to reduce noise not make it. It might not be well secured in there.
Please post if you have this addressed and solved. Maybe we can help each other out with this if one of us finds a solution.

Hey Mike,

Thanks for the reply, I am going to give the car a bit of time to settle in and see if the noise disappears. If not, I plan to take it to the dealer to isolate and fix the problem (at least that's the plan). I'll keep you updated once the problem is solved.

i heard this squeaking before and believe it or not, its the leather rear headrests rubbing against where it sits. try raising the rear headrests a little and the squeaking will disapper. hope this helps!
