Costco members: windscreen wiper deal
Heads up to any of you that may be Costco members. From now until Oct. 17th you can pick up Goodyear Assurance wiper blades buy one get one free for $7.99. I'm not sure how good they are, but for $8 for the pair I got some for my mother's car. She's had them for a week now and she says they work well. So, I think I'll pick up a pair for myself.
I had the original Bosch Icons, and was really disappointed with their short life span especially at $20+ each. I've also had the Michelin beam style, and those where garbage. I've had Rain-X Latitudes for about 2 years now, and surprisingly they've been the best out of all of them but at $17 a piece I can buy the Goodyear blades for a 1/4 the cost. I could even go back a few times and get 4 pairs for less than the Rain-X. Because, they limit you to 1 per day.
I just thought I'd throw it out there for you guys that are Costco members. I just figure though if you need/want new wipers blades you really can't beat a pair for $8.

They also have Formula Shell motor oil on sale, a case of 12qts for $27 so that's $2.25 a qt. Unfortunately they only have 10w30 though, but from all the reading up on formula shell it's supposed to be pretty good oil. They even let you buy up to 6 cases on one purchase.

I've run Motorcraft semi-synthetic 5w20 for nearly 80,000 miles now, and I change it every 3k irrespective of what the MID says. I'm just old school that way. I was using Purolator filters but I've now switched to Mann. I figure if they're good enough to be the OEM for BMW and MB they're good enough for me. Plus I can get a dozen shipped for $40.

I had them on my previous car and they perform very well but very bulky and ugly looking. I got OEM wiper inserts from DCH Tustin Acura for $5.35 each. http://www.dchtustinacura.com/specials/parts.htm

I only use these wipers now a days. They perform just as well as the $15 bosch and $7 michelin wipers that I used to use. Every fall I look forward to this deal. The wipers usually last me a yr until next fall when they go on sale again.

+1 Even the best wipers (in my experience) don't last longer than a year before having to be replaced due to low performance. If the "cheapos" last about the same then why wouldn't you want to save almost 3/4 of the cost? If only the BJ's by me carried blades

I also read on another forum(can't remember where) that you can take a can of silicone spray lubricant and spray the rubber to prolong their lifespan. Just make sure to take them off the car first, and let the spray dry before putting back on. I haven't tried it myself, but on these $8 blades I'll give it a shot.

I buy them each time they are on sale as well. However they aren't the best on my TL. The driver's one never seems to stay flat on the lower part of the glass. It also taps the tip of the wiper on the driver's side windshield frame.
But for the price, you can't beat it. They last a year easily.

Well, by the sound of you guys that have used them before it seems to be mostly positive. I think I'll definitely grab a pair.
Off topic, but the only reason my sister and I split a membership is because of their Kirkland Signature dog food. FYI for all you pet owners take a look at the first ingredient in their food and it's usually corn, but the Costco it's actually meat. Apparently it's just Diamond brand in a different bag with a lower price. My sister has 4 50lbs+ dogs, and I have a 100lbs+ dog. So, getting good quality food at a good price is important to us as animal lovers.

I keep my wipers like new for years using a UV-blocking protectant such as 303 Aerospace Protectant. Just wipe it on the wiper blades after each car wash. It keeps the rubber and plastic from fading and cracking in the sun. Works well for clear headlight/taillight lenses too.

I've used them for two years now. I just replace them every year and my set doesn't have a problem lasting a year. I use Rain-X so I don't use my wipers as often though.

I've waxed the glass on my cars and it works great until I use the wipers. Clay bar and 3 coats of wax seems excessive but I'm willing to try it if it means it'll work so good that I won't need my wipers.
Thanks for the tip!

My wife and I walked into Costco tonight.......THEY ARE RIGHT AT THE ENTRY WAY!

At least for the Costco stores in North California, the 26" and 28" seems to run out the fastest every time, but I was lucky enough to snag a set.
The Goodyear ones aren't the best wipers out there, but I think they're decent enough for the price, so I'd recommend it to people still deciding.

Awesome! Got to grab me a set! My rainX wipers that I had for 2 years are about to be needing replacement. $8 for two wipers sounds like an amazing bargain. Lets hope they still have some left.

Just an FYI, the sale ends tomorrow. I also picked up a case of Formula Shell 10w30 for $27. Which comes out to $2.25 a qt. You can't even get oil that cheap at Walmart, and from all the research I've done on the oil it's actually really good for dino oil. Obviously, I'll continue to use 5w20 in my TL, but the Shell will work fine for my mom's car, and my riding mower.
Oh BTW, I took maseace advice and sprayed my wipers with 303 Aerospace Protectant. Thanks for the tip
