Coolant question...

My car needs more coolant and my friend gave me a PRESTONE coolant/antifreeze bottle. However, this liquid is fluorescent yellow, its not blue like the one in my car. Is this one ok too? Did anyone ever use this brand?
One last important question: Do i need to mix it with 50% water?
Thx for your time!!!

coolant is coolant i dont see why you couldnt mix it, but im not sure.

as for the mix, read the bottle. it should say how much to mix it with. if its pre-mixed then you don't need to, otherwise the directions will tell you how much to mix it with

but isnt it different for every car? I know most cars use a 50/50 mixture but im not sure about the TL and its too late to call the dealer to ask them.

If I were you, I'd just go buy a gallon of Honda coolant and be done with it. It's already premixed and you'll be safe mixing it with the existing factory coolant. The Honda coolant is a very high quality coolant with NO silicates and already has distilled water mixed in. Prestone coolant as far as I can remember, does not claim to be silicate free and instead is marketed as low silicate. Silicate can be very harmful to water pumps and cylinder heads...

Without going into a long explanation... all coolants are not the same. Some coolants cannot be mixed together. The green, blue and yellow coolants can generally be mixed together without issue if in a bind. But the red and pink coolants used by most German manufactures, should never be mixed with the cool colored coolants.

Unless your flushing the entire system of the old coolant it's best to stick with the same stuff. When mixing different coolants you always run the risk of a chemical reaction that can lead to gelling and major problems. To me it's safe insurance, stick with the same stuff. Spend the few extra dollars for peace of mind.

Prestone makes A 50/50 that mixes with any coolant.

Yeah, just go to Honda and get some coolant... Just go up to the service dept and ask one of those workers to add some real quick... Then peace out!

I actually bought a gallon of prestone 50/50. Its working fine, I also was worried about the whole yellow thing but its just the color it works with any car. But hey like the guys before me said if your that worried about it go to the Acura/Honda dealership and grab yourself some OEM coolant. haha

Several years ago, Road Rage did a writeup about coolants and Acuras. He was pretty adament that the Honda premix coolant should be used in the TL and gave substantial and concrete reasons why.. not just some feel-good stuff. If you do a search or maybe look for the RR Journals, you may be able to dig this one up.
