Cold Weather-Vibration on HPT Tires

Unfortunately it is very cold and I have the HPT package for my winter setup (Aspecs in summer) anyway, under hard acceleration I go no where, my tires just vibrate horribly, i shift up to second and they catch grip. Oh i have a 6mt. This only happens with these tires. And, the malfunction lamp comes on blinking when it does this. Well I accelerated fast today to pass someone from a stop and now the malfunction indicator remains on. Should i be worried about anything. I disconnected the positive battery terminal to reset it.

This light came on in my Honda prelude before and the mechanic never found a problem.

I dunno about your tire vibration problem, but if you need to disconnect the battery, ALWAYS remove the negative and NOT the positive cable first.

Really, I thought it was to remove positive first, because you want to keep it grounded. Thanks...I always mix things up.

As for the tires, search around. A lot of people have the flatspotting/vibration problem, including myself. To reduce it, all you can really do is keep the proper pressure in your tires. Mine smooth out after a couple of miles of driving 45+ mph... Solution: get better tires when these go bald.

As for the "malfunction lamp," read the manual. If you are referring to the VSA triangle with the exclamation in the middle, this is to inform you one of three things:

1) VSA is OFF as intended by the operator with the switch.
2) VSA is being activated as the car senses a loss of traction.
3) Warning light: If the light comes on when you start the car and does not go away after pressing the switch, you need to have it checked out. You could possibly have a bad wheel speed sensor. I had this problem once, a $22 part was replaced for free under warranty.

Read the manual, you will have more knowledge of what the indicators mean. Good luck.

and also, always remove the ground FIRST

HPT tires should not be anyone's winter set up... that's just silly in my opinion. You're asking to slip around and get yourself into trouble. Your tires vibrate horribly because they're very firm and bouncing up and down as they're trying to gain traction. You should really be looking into all season tires or dedicated winter tires.

PBM-I know this, when I was looking for a 6MT in Black on Black, this is all I could find. It came with this set up. And I also purchased the ASPEC rims with tires, my wife would of had a fit if she saw me buying a 3rd set of tires for the winter. I deal with them, they are not too bad since it does not snow that much around here. When the tread finally runs down, is when I will get winter tires.
