Close, But Not Yet...
Spent a couple of hours at a dealer today test-driving, looking at colors and haggling...
I posted a few days ago that the first dealer I went to wanted to give me only $20k for my 2004 Maxima (an outrage)...well, that was the starting point today as well. But by the time I left, I got the sales manager involved and we got to $23.5k for my trade and 31k for the TL ($700 over invoice)....Not a bad deal, considering they moved a total of $3800 from the initial quote.
So...I ALMOST did it. Was looking at a NBP/Ebony...but for some reason, I just couldn't "pull the trigger."
Something wasn't right. I went in thinking that if I could get the numbers to work I'd buy today. I even told the salesman that very thing. But in the end, I needed to step away and think about it....I'm not sure why. I started looking at different colors...Anthracite/Ebony, NBP/Quartz, etc...but I couldn't decide.
I do know that I had a slight concern about the size of the TL. Up close, it appeared fairly small. It looked to be the same size as my wife's 2002 Accord!! Is this just my perception because my Maxima is bigger? Or is the TL really that small a car?? Maybe it's the short rear-end...I don't know...
Anyway, I backed off and I guess I'll have to think about it more. Any advice from all you TL lovers would be greatly appreciated....Thanks.
Eric

never stops!
What is your dilema? Are you rethinking about color or your trade in price? If it's color I'd go with NBP/Ebony. Either ways you'll lose money in trading 2004 Maxima and buying new TL. Why are you changing maxima?

Why are you doing it again? Moving to a TL from a Max it's not that big difference. If you wanted a TL, why didnt you get a TL from the beginning? You'll lose alot, but then again, its your money.

you'll do better with a private sale of your maxima, then you won't feel too bad about the cost of TL. IMHO the navi is not worth it, you can get a portable unit and a awesome set of rims for the price the dealer charges for navi system.
At least when you trade-in, you don't have to pay sales tax all over again (only on the difference). That, plus no need to deal with strangers (and give test drives to teenagers!), should be worth quite a bit! Although I don't have one, many who have them seem to think that the NAVI is quite well integrated with the TL's electronics and sound systems, to the extent that a portable doesn't really compete.

The tax issue AND the private party issue (getting a loan, transferring title, etc...) are the incentive to do the trade.
