Cleaning products for headlight
Hello,
I put a post on JnC's thread but didn't get an answer , I was wondering which products to use on headlights , inside and outside to clean it , make it look newer. I am going to clear my headlights and wanted to clean them in the process. If there are any products I can buy from Wal-Mart or stores like that it would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Are you trying to get rid of scratches/pitting on the outside of the headlight or dirt etc on the inside?
To clean the inside of the lens I usually use dish washing soap and after washing the lens I rinse it with some distilled water so that I dont have to dry the inside with a cloth etc. Believe it or not the inside of the lens is very sensitive to scratches compared to the outside, I guess it is due to the fact that the inside doesnt have a clear coat on it.
BTW some people suggest using paint thinner, I personally have never used it.
For the outside: If you want to just clean the lens the throw some meguiar's plastx clear lens polish on a napkin and rub it onto the lens till the polish disappears and you get a clear luster, then whip the access polish off with a micro fiber towel.
If you want to refinish your front lens then you can use Novus 3 step plastic polish, you'd need a buffer for this job after the refinish you can use some PlastX and finish off the process.
I have seen people using sand papers on the front lenses willy-nilly but I strongly condemn doing that just because there is no turning back once you use a sand paper.
If the lenses are badly pitted and you have tried polishing but to no avail then use a 2500+ grit sand paper with water lightly over the lens and then polish the lenses with novus and plastx.
