Child in front seat
Anyone with an 05 model put a child in the front seat since the airbag automatically turns off if the child's weight is in the right range? Are there any other concerns with putting a child in the front seat (with a proper car seat) if the car indicates that the passenger front air bag is turned off?

The passenger side air bag won't deploy, but the front airbag will. Its really not recommended to put a child, in a child seat, in the passenger side seat in the front of the car. The TL has the LATCH system in the back to ensure properly securing a child seat on the rear seat of the car. I'd put the child in the back, for their safety.

Not sure if you have an 04, but in the 05, the passenger FRONT airbag should not inflate if you have a child in the front seat. (Does the "off" light also apply to the passenger side airbag?) Not really concerned about LATCH, since I would be using a booster seat that does not attach to the car and simply uses the car's shoulder and lap belts.

Imho...
Well, we talk about infants and toddlers, or children, right?
First of all, I'd say try "not to" although you have disabled the air bag, the most dangerous factor there. If, despite these very real dangers, you absolutely must put a non-rear-facing child in the front seat, please tight him well, and move his seat as far back from the dashboard as possible.

However, in '05, Acura lists the details of what this car could do and enhances the safety by adding multiple sensors into the front passenger seat. Obviously, '05 seems more "safe" at this particular issue.
On '05 model, yes, Acura does say: "weight sensors have been incorporated in the front passenger seat to determine the total weight on that seat. If it is less than 65 pounds (as if occupied by a small child or car seat) the airbag will not deploy."
Let's check further and see if it does say the front airbag and side airbag.
"The airbags are located in the outboard seat side bolsters and deploy when sensors detect that a side impact is occurring. To prevent injury to a small child or small-stature adult, an innovative passenger position sensing system prevents side airbag deployment if the passenger is leaning into the side airbag deployment path. A total of seven sensors in the passenger seatback determine the height and position of the occupant; this helps the system determine if it is safe to deploy the side airbag. When the passenger returns to an upright seating position, the side airbag will reactivate so it can deploy and protect the passenger in a side impact.
Airbag deployment on the front passenger's side is regulated by crash severity, seatbelt usage and, new for 2005, the weight of the occupant. Newly integrated sensors under the seat gauge occupant weight and if the total weight on the passenger seat is less than 65 lbs, the airbag system will not deploy, minimizing the potential for injury to children. Just as the driver's side, the airbags are deployed at the speed appropriate to the speed and severity of the collision - slower for lower speed collisions, more quickly for higher speeds."
So,
- the side air bag could be automatically disabled due to the improper "situation" of the height and position of the occupants.
- As for the airbag system, it will be turned off if the total weight on the passenger seat is less than 65 lbs.

Not a good idea to put a childseat (or small child) in the front seat. Also check with your state regulations. It is illegal to put a carseat in the front seat in certain states. I believe that this is the law in NY ( I could be wrong). It may be the law in your location.

Still curious
Seems from megamoderator that there should be no airbag concerns with putting a child under 65 pounds in a booster seat in the front seat. Also, a child in the front seat is not any closer to the sides of the car then if they were in the back and they are not being put close to the front and back of the car. Why would there still be any concern about putting a child in the front seat of an 05? I can't see the reason not to, but if there is one, I'd like to know before I do it. Thanks.

That's how kids get killed, airbag or not.

I put mine in the trunk... It makes the interior much more quiet.
Added bonus is the cargo net; when properly installed, gives a nice 'cradeling' effect.
Also, when traveling by air, more convenient and cheaper to put kid in the Plane's overhead compartment.

If you "have" to put your child in the front seat, it's time to buy something bigger than the TL. Otherwise, if you don't "have" to, don't. Why risk your child's safety? The back seat is without a doubt a safer place for a child to be.
