changed my tranny filter. some tips

this applies to 04-06 AT

wasn't a hard job at all. just make sure to have the right tools. a small 10mm socket wrench is what u need. there's not a lot of room to work

remove the stock airbox.
remove the bolt for the ground wire and tuck the wire out of the way
remove the 3 10mm bolts holding the transmission filter cover
remove the 14mm bolt for the bango fitting
remove filter
leave the spring inside the housing
replace or re-use the rubber gasket
replace the o-ring
replace the 2 washers on bolt for the bango fitting
bolt everything back up

some tips

stuff a lot of paper towels around the whole area where the filter is. you will lose about 2oz's of tranny fluid. i used about 15 paper towels and pushed some of them into the small spaces with a long screwdriver. i had no spills on the floor and no left over fluid on the tranny.

when re-inserting the spring, feel around inside where its supposed to sit. it feels like there a bunch if little hooks in there. the spring will hang loosely but will not really grab onto anything. slide the filter in SLOWLY. if u bump the side of the filter housing then spring will fall off. don't worry, you wont lose it. just try again.

once the filter is back in and u line up the cover, you'll have to push pretty hard to get the cover back on because of the new o-ring. once its in you'll hear a suction noise. it seems like its pushing all the air out.

im not sure if its the same filter for both cars or if "element" is what they call the filter. either way its the right filter for the TL

They call the filter an element, it's not naming a car model

BTW: These parts do cross over to Honda part numbers, as I picked up all my parts from my local Honda dealer the other day. I will be changing the filter on my Christmas break....
Thanks for the write up..
