CarsDirect or Autobytel?

CarsDirect or Autobytel?
Have you ever used any of these services? Do they make any difference to the buying experience: the haggling, baits and switch, the feigned trips to check with the Sales Manager, etc? Do they work for Acuras with their unique pricing strategy? Just wondering.

I tried Autobytel, and all they did was ask some local dealer to email me. He didn't really give me much of a better deal for a car that was selling at sticker for the most part.

I went to carsdirect. I also went to carbuyingtips.com . Carsdirect had a local internet dealer tell me his selling price right up front. I went around and tried to haggle other dealers to lower or match the price and they wouldn't budge from MSRP. So I went on the unveiling day and ordered it.

I would have to agree. I tried the internet car pricing services in my search, and found no bargains at all! One service quoted MSRP, one service didn't have a dealer in my area, and the other service (referred to dealership) just used it as a sales lead and tried to lure me into the dealership without ever quoting a price ...
In the end, I did it the old fashioned way by visiting the dealership and finding a knowledgable salesman that knew the product and was trustworthy.

Question for SLVR04TL6PD:
I guess I don't understand. You said " Carsdirect had a local internet dealer tell me his selling price right up front". So when the dealers you went to wouldn't budge on the MSRP, why didn't you just go with the local internet dealer? I was just wondering if the internet dealers are not taken seriously.

price up front.....
sorry about that. I was on the phone when I wrote that. the internet dealer through carsdirect.com was $1000 under msrp ! And I went to him in person and ordered it. I paid $34,195 --6 spd/ nav that included the destination charge. good luck!

S**t. It can't be that neither of these services is helpful. On the the CarsDirect site there are some very attractive prices. On the new TL, however it was MSRP. I thought it was a matter of time. There were testimonials from previous customers, so you imagine that it is improvement on the typical buying experience.

I went through "several" of the online services because they sometimes contract with different dealers. All of the dealers would only let it go for MSRP, no budging on the price no matter how hard I tried!
