carfax question
Hey guys,
I was wondering, does anyone know the criteria for an accident to be reported to carfax. I recently got rear-ended and the insurance company paid for the damage, however, there was no police report as the cops did not come to the scene of the accident. I am wondering if this accident will appear on carfax or not?
Oh and the damage was not expensive, it was rear bumper, front bumper, grill and passenger headlight.
Thanks.

well since you didn't report it to the police, it won't appear on dmv system, that is one of the checks that is performed on carfax. as far as the insurance company, i'm not sure. i'm pretty sure carfax also checks with insurance systems to check on car accidents.

Several years ago, I hit a deer with my van. Police were notified and my insurance took care of the damages which were more than $4000. This never made the carfax report for my vehicle. So you never can know for sure.

There are alot of factors to see weather carfax will get the info. If you are using some big corp (gieco, allstate, statefarm) and get in to an accident and insurance pays, it will most likely end up on carfax, a police report is filed, it also may wind up on carfax.
Only way to elude carfax for sure:
Suppose you hit a deer, you pay for damages out of pocket and don't call police or insurance. Since no big place finds about this incident execpt for bodyshop, it won't be dected by carfax.

Only if something shows up on Carfax are you REALLY sure - though I've known people that were first owners that had erroneous stuff on their report.
My wife had an accident, Allstate paid, police report filed. Two years later when I went to sell it, I ran a Carfax just to see - still clean. Do NOT trust them!
