Carbon fibre steering wheel? Group buy?
Does anyone have this optional steering wheel? How do you like it? I think I want one.
Any possibility of a group-buy-DIY-mod? I think dealers want $500 for this. Should be more like $50.

^ or check out www.hondacuraworld.com (AZ official vendor), and their price for the CF steering is a lot less than $500.

is the CF model thicker than stock? and is the TL-S stock thicker than the base TL?
i have and prefer the aspec wheel because it is beefier and sportier than the stock, and also much easier to hold on to. but it does have blue stitching which might not look great on the type-s.

if you think the steering wheel is thick, go check out just about any other car in the type s category and then report back...

The part is made in Japan. The CF steering wheel has the same thickness of the stock steering wheel. If you want a thicker steering wheel like the a-spec one, this would not be your choice.
I noticed that the stitches on the stock steering wheel is somehow nicer. It seems like the CF is just glued on the steering wheel. Therefore the edges of the CF bottom piece on my wheel somehow sticks out a little bit as it's not completely glued & pushed into the leather (assuming it is leather). But it is not noticable and does not scrape your hand when turning the wheel unless you are detail oriented (I am)... figured out this is not a Lexus/mecedes $1000 steering wheel....
BUT, the CF steering really complete the nice sporty look of the interior with Supercomputer's gas pedals!!! I think it is my mind but the wheel really makes the interior looks waaaaaaay better!! I cannot go back to the stock/leather wheel as I like the smoooth surface of the CF (don't even know if it is real CF) when using the wheel.
I do not have any pictures right now.... at work. But I can tell this is coming soon ......

1) disconnect battery to avoid airbag light to come on
2) unbolt the two srews to take the airbag out.
3) follow the instruction to unbolt items... etc.
4) reverse the steps to assemble the items back
5) alignment if the steering wheel is not completely straight after the install. (it happened to me even if I marked the center of the wheel before I took the stock one out......)
Tools needed: screw drivers, steering wheel puller (20 bux at Lordco), torque ranch but I did not use one which was a mistake as I tighten the steering wheel too much.... will not be able to take it out again!
I would have the dealer to install it for me if I had to do it all over again... since I spend almost the same amount of money for an alignment and other tools..... The dealer quote me $150 Canadian on the install including the alignment.... so check with the dealers to find out how much it costs before doing it yourself...

The pictures shown on this post are a different Carbon Fiber wheel than is on the Acura website. The Acura website shows a 3 spoke Carbon Fiber wheel with the Type S logo at the bottom of the center spike. That is the type of wheel I would like to get with the group discount. I do have a Type S, so I'd like to make sure the group buy would have the Typse S badging on it.

Guys, I'd love to have the Carbon Fiber Steering Wheel, but we're never going to be able to get it for $50. I've looked on hondaacuraworld.com and ebay and the cheepest I've seen it was for $373.00.
If we're REALLY serious about doing a group buy, how do we go about facilitating this??? Because right now, we're just blowing smoke talking about a $50 steering wheels-which doesn't seem like it could really happen. It would be great for us to really organize this, get a group price from someone (hondaacuraworld.com, etc.) and actually see how low we can get these steering wheels for.

Now we can get our Carbon Fiber Steering Wheel !!!!
Alright everyone...I just got off the phone with Tim at HondaAcuraworld.com. He said our pricing for the Carbon Fiber Steering Wheel is $357.65. Realize that the regular price for this is $529.00, which is NOT the installed price. But if you'd like that price, just call Tim at 888-729-5257 (RAY LAKS) and order your steering wheel. We don't even have to do a group buy-just give him a call and say that you want this pricing from the AcuraZine website. You can even mention my name if you want to, but I'm not sure if that is totally necessary. He seems to remember offering this price for people who post on AcuraZine.com
