Car won't accept Radio Code - Bad News

Don’t bother trying to an engine over speed code (engine light code) by removing the battery for 20 minutes. The result is that the car will not accept the 5th digit of the radio code when the car is re-started.

The over speed occurred during an emergency maneuver when I yanked the wheel just as I was shifting to 4th as another driver came into my lane and I had to take to shoulder not to hit him. Car went into second and I thought I didn’t even get an over speed condition as I put the clutch back in as soon as I felt the RPMs rise.

First engine light came about two hours later. I now get an intermittent engine light at hot idle and am told that the car has one or more bent values. Car is still under warranty, but the Steven’s Creek Acura says it’s my fault so no warranty.

Steven’s Creek cost estimate is $2,700 labor and parts up to $1,100 for a $3,800 total. I am in the South San Francisco bay area and am now trying to decide what options I have left.

Any opinions?

have you try Call Acura Client Services

If you bent a valve the engine will run like its dying-if it runs at all, and driving it will only make things worse$$$$

First- I am surprised the car does not have a rev limiter built in. The auto trans cars have
one, so I would look into that. If it failed to protect the engine- you could talk with Acura about it.
Otherwise- find a private shop that are Acura smart and let them go at it.
May have piston top damage and other things that only teardown will reveal

Also your car may have - engine safe mode- that limits rpm to 2500-3000 when internal damage possible from over-rev. My car threw a code for over-rev, but the tech said if its running - thats not the real problem.

Get another opinion- did they look at car or just phone call diagnose and said its this much?

My bad - tried to enter radio code in the Nav unit

Well I am feeling a little better – at least the Navigation and Radio works. I had not ever tried entering the codes and was trying to enter my 5-digit radio code in the Navigation system, that has a 4-digit code.

I went to the dealer with a hard engine light that flashed as hot idle, and the car runs rough at hot idle. I was told that there were multiple cylinder misfire codes and an over speed code. They did a value adjustment and worse case brought the valves back from 13 thousands back to the specification of 8. The technician said that the valves were still noisy and the engine was still misfiring.

I asked about hurting the engine by driving it and was told that the damage was already done. I could drive it as is with no further damage. Engine runs fine except at hot idle, and gas mileage is OK

Thats a little scary that you are still driving it like that, i also dont understand why they did a valve adjustment when you have missfire and overrev codes, when they know there is damage! When i misshifted my 6-speed accord they replaced both heads without question and the car had aftermarket parts on it. I find it hard to thats the dealership wont goodwill the repair, usually honda does a one time good will on misshifts, and acura does alot of warranty work and goodwills. I guess you must be dealing with a tough dealership.

On the radio code problem I had the same thing.
The card with the codes list them in the reverse order that the car request them and doesn't sepcify which code it wants.. Radio code 5 digits on the top of card, navigation code 4 digits on the bottom.
