Can 2010 Accord 6 speed tranny fit '04 6 speed TL?
 

I have a 04 TL which I'm planning to change the clutch. My transmission might be gone also. My friend crashed his 2010 accord coupe which was 6 speed. He told me he'd give me the tranny for the "homie " price if it fits. I know his motor is j35 and mine is a j32a I believe. When I was shopping for a clutch, I noticed that both vehicles used the same clutch. Will the j35 tranny off a 2010 accord fit on my 04TL?

Although the clutch assembly/flywheel the same, the transmission ratios are different, but that doesn't mean it won't fit.

Trans case is the same and most of the transmission parts are the same, but looks like the Accord doesn't have limited slip.

I don't know much about Honda's. I'm a Nissan guy who decided to try something different and bought a TL. I've searched online and have found conflicting information. I thought my transmission might be gone because I currently only have 1,2 and R. It shifts smoothly into 3-6 but won't move. A friend came over weekend and told me my clutch is done but my tranny is fine.

I'm curious, when you make the 2-3 shift while moving along at say 20 mph, what happens when you press the accelerator pedal?

Assuming your clutch is the issue, it is highly recommended you replace the gear oil in the transmission with ACDelco 10-4014 Friction Modified Synchromesh Manual Transmission Fluid (it takes about 2.3 quarts); this MTF will make a huge difference in how well your transmission shifts as well as how long it lasts.

I need to do some research on what these Honda transmissions like. I normally go with Amsol Manual Synchromesh.

You can check pretty much any Honda/Acura forum you choose; there is usually a HUGE body of anecdotal reports on the various Synchromesh MTFs out there; by a similarly HUGE margin, the best performer is the ACDelco (formerly known as GM) Synchromesh Friction Modified (do not confuse this with the similar Synchromesh which isn't Friction Modified).

Have you ever heard of a 3.5 tranny on a 3.2?

Doesnt matter what size engine it is. It should fit. The trans case and bolt pattern are the same. Thats all that matters. You will get better gas mileage but slightly less acceleration with the accord trans. Also will lose your LSD unless you swap it from your trans into the accords trans.

I would not do anything until you figure out why your gears are not working properly. Most likely your TL trans is not bad.
