California Air Resource Board or something like that.

I wouldn't worry about the CARB vs. Non-Carb version. I think they will make one version and hope/expect it will be Carb legal.

carb legal is just a sticker attached to the intake in case you get pulled over in california with the intake installed. It just states that its smog legal, thats all..

Is this anything to be concerned about, or is it legalese and the filter protects the engine adequately? Would be a pain to have to remove the CAI assembly during the rain season here in the SF Bay Area. However, if there's any chance of trashing the engine on my brand-new TL I would steer clear of this performance add-on. Just curious...

You dont ahve to worry about that. They make a air bypass valve that sucks all the water out incase any gets into the intake... its about 25.00 more i believe..

You only have to worry about water getting into the intake if the entire pipe is submerged. I dont think anyone on this site will see water that high and try to drive thru it. When I got the intake for my 01 CL-S I also got the bypas valve but never installed it. Drove the car in rain etc thru puddles (nothing too high) and had no problem. If you need piece of mind by all means get the bypass valve. In the event the entire filter get submerged the bypas valve opens allowing the engine to breathe air from the engine comprtment preventing the water from entering the intake tube.

Yeah.. anyone in california doesnt need it, its a waste of money.. people in areas with snow and heavy rains, if you want piece of mind, then get it, but theres really no need fo rit

Thanks for the clarifications, guys. I figured Injen was just covering themselves, and it was nothing to really worry about. No one would install these if you couldn't drive through a rainstorm! In any event, other than the extra cost, is there any disadvantage to installing the bypass valave?

Thanks,

Tom

Some valves have been know to fail (leak). Instead of getting cold air from the lower filter the valve's seal opens allowing hot engine compartment into the tube negating any gains from CAI. There is a way to get around this. During dry times instead of the valve use a silicone hose to cover the gap caused by the valve and when wet use the valve.

it doesnt pull air from out front, so its not a true cold air... a true cold air pulls air from the front end of the vehicle.. ie.. tube piping and air filter behind the front bumper, not in the engire bay..

I would rather not remove the front bumper cover. Would I be able to install it if I peeled back the inner fender liner to gain access?

You can always take a picture of the dyno sheet. Just put it under a lamp and leave the flash off...that way there's no glare.

Only disadvantage i can thnk of is fitment , considering you will have to cut the intake in order for the bypass valve to be installed , and the bypass valve will take away a few WHP

No dyno sheet? It would be nice to see the before and after. Injen must have not wanted it posted.

Jim -

It appears as though "the group" is antsy to see the dyno sheet from Injen. Since you are without digital capabilities, maybe they'd post for you? I'm guessing they'll dyno your TL again when you return for the check-up.

Just a thought......

In the absence of a dyno scan may I ask--

At what RPM does the 11.1 increase in HP occur?
What is the average increase in HP?
Same questions for torque.

No reprogramming of any sort took place and runs were made on the same day, correct?

Cold air can work if there is a big difference in temps before and after, but the continued lack of a dyno sheet seems very suspicious.

It does seem suspicious...maybe Acura got it right this time and we already have a great CAI. All I know is if I do get one, I'll definately redyno the car and post my gains (if any).
