'Bye 3rd geners...

I am trading my TL for a new 'Vette.

Before I leave the 3rd gen site I honestly want to compliment some of the people on here. I realize that I can, at times, be "difficult" and many of you were very gracious and tolerant.

The '99 1LE LS1 Z28 I had was a raw, edgy, high performance car and it sort of set a new level for me. I really like that sort of thing - despite the car's K-Mart grade interior and spotty reliability.

I probably should have gone for the 'Vette last year instead of getting the '07 TL-S.

Despite my b*tching and moaning, the TL has a LOT of good things going for it and I will definitely miss the car on some levels once it's gone. It's comfortable, quiet, well built (overall), has a nice stereo, good seats and enough performance for most sane people.

The 'Vette won't be perfect, either and it definitely won't be up to Acura's overall quality standards.

Anyway, I'll always have some foundness for these cars and will always feel "good" when I see one on the road. I'll be watching Acura carefully - hoping that they stay focused in the right direction.

Happy motoring to all of you.

I'll chime in on the 4th gen site from time to time. The 4th gen, brakes are looking good and I personally like the new styling.

Bob- like I have previously told you- Good luck w/ the Vette.

I am a little confused though because you posted this previously:

I factory ordered a 2009 'Vette.

I will have the car in roughly 7 weeks.

I'll post pics when I get the car if you're interested.

I ordered an '09 base 'Vette coupe with the Z51 performance package, the 2LT interior, the glass roof and competition gray wheels. Color is cyber gray metallic over red leather. Obviously it's a 6 speed manual (T6060) with the LS3 (430 SAE NET certified HP). I didn't spring for the $1,200 optional exhaust, since it only adds 6 HP ($200 per HP).

The Z06 and the new ZR1 are out of my price range.

I get to keep and drive my TL in the meantime. I got $30K for the TL on the trade, plus they discounted the 'Vette by $2K off MSRP.

The TL held its value pretty well. I paid $36,500 for it new and I will have had it for about 15 months by the time they take it in trade.

The car should be a real runner.

They run mid twelves and top out @ 190 MPH. Some guys have seen more than 390 HP at the rear wheels on a chassis dyno in bone-stock tune.

The fuel economy is just as good. 28 MPG is a snap on the highway if you keep it under 80 MPH...

i think keeping that vette under 80 mph may be hard to do cause it's a car that wants to be driven at least 90 mph and above.

Check this out.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1819310

That's bone stock.

And they weigh ~ 3,300 pounds.

They're EPA rated (under the tougher '08+ EPA rules) @ 16 city/26 highway.

Pretty amazing how well a "low tech pushrod engine" can perform, hey?

I also ordered a 2009 Toyota Yaris hatch (for the winter). The dealer (Toyota of Newport) signed on for a delayed delivery (end of November), which was great. That's the time when I'll put the 'Vette in storage for the winter.

I got the base model Yaris with the 5 speed manual and the convenience package. It's got a nice little engine in it and the car only weighs 2,300 pounds. I plan on installing a TRD rear anti-roll bar, but keeping it otherwise stock.

I honestly would have liked to keep my TL, but doing so would have simply been too expensive.

I haven't visited 3G in a while, and I can honestly say I'm surprised to find that you were back here after the douchebaggery that you indulged in when you first joined (and apparently later from your opening post in this thread).

Enjoy the Vette; it's a hell of a car.

Good call on the switch to the Vette. I'm jealous, that was going to be my next car before my last car was wrecked and I had to pick up a new car sooner than expected. Oh well, when I'm ready for a new toy car the C6 Z06 should be down into the 40ks used so I'll spring for one of those then

Enjoy, keep us posted on your mods for the Vette.

Sad to hear you go! I guess no more bashing threads about the rotor sizes on our 3rd Gens. Anyway, good luck with the vette!

It was more than just the rotors.....hopefully the vette has a sunglass holder.

The steering, shifter and engine (LS2 to LS3) have all been improved since this 2007 model was tested, so it's reasonable to assume that the current car ('09) would post even better times:

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...rvette_feature

"There were several surprises in this class—and the biggest was the astonishing performance of the base Corvette equipped with the Z51 package. The Vette was a returnee to VIR because we experienced a data problem with its quickest lap last year. We had to publish its second-quickest lap time (3:09.3) then, which we didn’t think represented the car’s capabilities.

Those suspicions were dead on, because this time around the Z51 blazed around the course in 3:03.6, nearly six seconds quicker. That time bests those of the Audi R8 and Porsche 911 Turbo, cars that cost more than twice as much as the Z51’s base price. As we’ve learned, Corvettes are lap dogs when it comes to obeying commands from the helm, and they have wonderful fade-free brakes and benefit from a smooth 400-hp V-8. But they initially feel spooky, partly because the steering is a bit numb. Once a driver learns to trust the Vette’s chassis, the Chevy can embarrass almost any other car on the track, even if it isn’t as confidence inspiring as a Porsche 911."

good luck with the Vette! If you can put up with the Z28, you should be fine. I've had three Vettes and although they are great cars and fun to drive, you have to have a certain tolerance for "weird" problems and "chasing" noises...

I will say this about the Corvette community, they are a great bunch of people and you will almost always get the fellow Corvette owner "Wave" driving down the road.
