Good idea guys, will do as soon as i have time. Since they appraised my car for 14,500 and willingly the the trade-in for the same amount; i will then ask them to knock it down for 14.5 no more than that.

If they say the trade-in value is 14,500 then my guess is that you could sell it privately for a few grand more. Best of luck and be sure to come back to tell us what happened!

I bet when you sold the subi and coming back with $14.5k cash in hand and they will like "sorry the best price we could do is $16.5k". These stealership love to throw awesome price out there until they nail you back with the interest, this trick is getting real old with typical used car place.

I just appraised my car at carmax, and it's worth 18,000 which i think is at very reasonable price. As a result, i will sell to carmax get some cash. Should i contact the dealer who has the Acura to confirm the price for 14,500 or sell my subaru right now and talk to them later?

I bought my 2005 Navi TL AT with 102k miles. All maintenance on the car was recorded and it only had 1 owner. No accidents either.

Take the car for a test-drive and have a mechanic check the car out. Ask if you can take it to an Acura or Honda dealership for a point inspection. Most dealers will do the inspection for free if you check out their specials on their website.

think about how many miles per year ur gonna drive... if ur gonna drive more than 20K miles per year dont buy it. ur gonna be spending 17K + taxes and registration for a car that ur gonna drive for apprx. 4 more years.

Not a bad deal. Car looks clean. See if you can get a couple bucks off the sticker.

Explain why.

I paid a bit less for my 08 TL with 72k. I knew that I was going to drive about 40K-45K miles a year. I'm at 143K now and no major issues. I'm expecting to get 250K or more.

With proper maintenance these cars are made to last. I see no issue here. This is not a 1990's Ford we are talking about.

Your right, you should get 250k+ miles. Only problem is if you only keep it a couple years your going to loose big time $ when it comes to selling.

I sold my type-s with 75k miles to my brother this weekend for $12k plus his old TL with rebuilt title. He plans to drive it alot and told him if you are then you better keep it for the long haul.

my type-s for his TL (both 6-speeds)

^^^^if your car is pass 150k miles the goal is to keep it and drive until the thing falling apart. if you afraid of losing money they buy a BMW and trade it in every three years.

I differ for some of the other folks here. I did not buy my TL for residual value. I needed a reliable car that will allow me to safely get to and from work for 3-4 years. I knew I lost cash the second I paid for the car. I think anyone that drives more than 20K miles a year can't expect to have a ton of value left after a couple years.

I agree with this one...these cars should last a very, very long time as reliable transport. Every Honda I've owned (about 5 of them) has been problem-free and durable. They make good, older, used cars.

Get the dealer who has the Acura to write it down the price in paper. Don't be hasty to sell your Subaru before confirming the price on the TL. You don't want to end up selling your car only to find out that the used car dealership decided to change their mind or tell you that they can't work out a deal with you.

Any reason why you decided to trade cars with your brother? Was it money?

Thats why you always negotiate a price before mentioning a trade in.

And you always have pre-approval for a loan before you go shopping.

When you haggle them down to 14k and tell them you don't need financing, that you are ready to purchase or walk.

And never tell them what rate you have. None of their business. Tell them if they can beat it you will finance with them but don't ever tell them what your rate is.

I had one salesman hide my keys, when I decided it was time to walk I asked for my keys. He said they were looking for them. I said look faster becasue if they are not in my car when I get to it I will call the police for theft.

A guy was running to my car as I walked out the front door. I laughed when I sat down.

Ever since i got it he's been trying to buy it off me. I would have perfered to sell it instead of trading though. I have two other cars so still have to sell one of the three.
