Buying high mileage TL ok?
Hi, all I'm a TL newbie and I'm looking to buy a used 04 Tl w/ 113k mi asking price is $11k but will try to negotiate it for $10,500 or $10K if possible, its a siverish color, w/ Navi and looks really good cond wise in and out. I've browsed around here and there's so much more I have to learn about this great car. I know two people that have TL's and after riding in one I was sold by its beauty and feel. $11k is my budget, I'm a student and don't work much and looking to payoff in 24 shorth months cause I'm allergic to debt.
My question is should I be skeptical about the mileage? or 113K is just the start for the honda powerplant? I had many hondas in the past last one had 268k mi and my brother in law still drives it.

You should be okay with that kind of mileage on a Honda. I've got an Accord with 152k and I don't plan on selling it for a long long while. Just make sure the timing belt and water pump's been changed and that the recall on the windshield washer pump has been done and you should be good. GL with the purchase.

Considering if you buy an Acura TL 04, man, that'll be costly to service and everything... I'm pretty sure you'll get a Honda Accord V6 2005 for around your budget....

the 105k mile service is about $1000-1200-1500 and is necessary
Other stuff needed and not done to it yet-- $400
Trans failure = very possible
Odd mileage to sell it unless it needs those things and brakes and whatever
Have a pro mechanic check it out top and bottem
brakes are common to need work by now
Call acura 1-800-382-2238 x5 with the VIN - tell them `Looking to Buy` and want warranty history and recall check please
Ask a few aftermarket warranty companies for quotes that specifically include a rebuilt replacement trans from acura ~if it fails~
04 have the gen2 trans probs
Other stuff needed and not done to it yet-- $400

None of the service I've had done on my TL was any costlier than any of my previous vehicles.
I say go for it, but if it has 111k miles be aware that the timing belt needs to be changed at 105k so you need to find out whether or not this has been done, if not it is an additional $1500 to get it done.

It's like hit or miss ... IMO it doesn't matter what year of TL it is: it's how that particular car was built & kept through the years that will determine how many more miles you can add to that odometer ...
Good luck with your pick !

It's good to have mechanic friends. Paid $500 for Sparks, Water Pump and Timing Belt. Acura wanted $1128 for the Timing Belt and Sparks. Go ahead and get it, bro! Pick up the ladies at school while you are at it!
P.S. Tint is a must.

If you have a mechanic friend, that is one thing..... I would just pass on this unless it has a great service history. Make sure the timing belt has been changed, if not, dont spent more than 9,500!

I agree with most everyone here.. it depends on the service history not the miles.. I have several buddies who are over 150k on their current vehicles with meticulous service records. I wouldn't mind buying one of their vehicles.
Make sure it had the timing belt, water pump & t/b auto tensioner replaced already. Get the full service history and have a reliable independent mechanic check it out.. if you can't verify or do any of these steps.. walk away.. also $11k for a TL is way too much at those miles. A few members picked up 3G TL's for less then that at half the miles.

I also heard of the tranny fails for some early 04s, if you want a TL like someone else said, your best bet is to fork out the additional 3-4k and get one with waay less miles, possibily even an 05 GL
