Buying 2008 TL 3.2 49K miles for $12800, right price?

Hello everyone,

This is my first day on Acurazine.
I would really appreciate, if you guys can help me decide on the above TL price point. I really like the 2008 TL. This TL has only 49K miles and is in great condition, I already had a test drive.
Please let me know if I should get it at the above price plus state tax or there are better prices available?

Thanks in advance,
Neil

Price is dependent on condition. Since we have no pictures, no history, no maintenance/service records, no list of options, no idea of any modifications, no idea of paint condition, no idea of leather condition, no clue what region you're in, etc., how are we supposed to give you a valid answer?

The more you tell us, the more we can tell you!

Sounds like a fair price, provided its in excellent condition inside and out, with a clean history. Also at that price, it should not be in need of any repairs

Adding to what has been mentioned already, it does really depend on those factors. I recently went to look at a 2008 TL auto for a relative. It was orig older gentlemen who owned it and only had 42k miles for $11k. I expected it to be in really nice cond however I believe it had been driven on mostly short trips, had curb rash on the wheels, body had scratches, interior was filthy and engine bay as well. I would have rather paid the same price for one with double the miles but much better taken care of

Good Morning

Thank you friends for all the replies. I was thinking no one would reply but was really happy to see 4 responses.

So above are all the pictures I can get. And the following description:

"This is an amazing 3.2 TL Sedan 4D. 5 Speed Automatic transmission with Sequential SportShift. It runs great and has been garaged mostly. From none smoking and none pet environment. Very clean. It has new Michelin Pilot Sport tires ($850). Wheel alignment also done when the tires were replaced. All routine maintenance and oil changes up to date and always serviced at local Acura Dealership."

Please let me know if you need any more details.

Have a great day,
Neil

That looks in very nice shape. Personally, I would think if you could get it for $12k or less that looks like a well kept clean, garaged car. Judging by the nice well kept house that it lived at, it sounds likely this wasn't owned by someone young and potentially driven hard. They took care to protect the original mats by using rubber ones, was maintained at the dealer and has new and expensive tires. It's also a good year to buy if you are going to get an automatic. Love Pearl white too
Carfax?

Has the rear bumper ever been repainted? I know the white on TLs matches poorly from bumper to body, but damn, that is significant.

Thanks Marc,
The car was listed for 14990, we been negotiating for a month now. My last price was $12500 but he won't go that down so ended up @ $12800. He also had 100K extended warranty which he cancelled it to bring the price down.

Thanks again,
Neil

I saw this on Craigslist as well. I would look up the price on Edmunds.com and use that as my basis, private party of course.

I would go look at this one myself, but my wife would not be happy. Good luck!

Marc,

Sorry to answer in my last reply. Yes, he had a carfax which he emailed me. It's clean. He's the 3rd owner. 1st owner leased it, he returned it. Then the 2nd owner(3rd owner's friend) used is for very little.

Cheers!

Sounds like it is pretty much clear then on all accounts. I would then go drive it if you haven't already and make your decision
Looks like it is in NJ? Just curious, I'm in NJ myself. Don't worry, not going to try and snag it or anything

That's a fair price at $12.5K. If you don't buy it at that price, someone else will. If you want it, I recommend you quit dicking around...

That is a fair price for both parties. He's likely not making a killing on you and you're not stealing it either.

this was the first thing that came to my mind too. WDP is such a pain in the ass. It seems as if anyone with a lip kit that didnt come from the factory purchase doesn't match AT ALL . Not to mention if anything ever needs painted its such a headache

Yup rear bumper color doesn't match but it's probably just the dealer having it resprayed when the lease came back. Looks clean though!

Thank you everyone once again.

What do you guys think about Lightstream for used car loan?
Does anyone have experience getting loan from them?

Cheers!

Yes. Central Ohio? Edmunds indicates $12,068 for private party.

I have a 2006 TL that is perfect and 35k miles, or I would go look at this one.

Do you have a credit union?

Ahh, I thought it was in NJ. If it's in OH, then $12K is a fair price. $12.8K would be on the high end according to Edmunds and KBB, but that car may very well fit the "Excellent" or "Outstanding" category.

Is it worth the extra $300-$800? Depends on how bad you want it and whether or not someone else does. If you didn't take his $12.8K offer and it was gone tomorrow, how would you feel? Good luck!

Yes, I tried it but he's saying he has brand new tires for around $850.

Thanks!

I never heard of lightstream.

Most people go through their/a credit union when dealing with private party. Hopefully someone can speak about lightstream.

Looks pretty solid, hope your sale went through. Yeah if you had a credit union that would be your best bet for an older car but oh well.

Had to get my Type-S from a dealership and they would only let me get a loan through them to seal the deal (they knew what they had unfortunately & there were literally 3 guys in there with me at the same time/day for an appointment for the same car).

After 2 hours of haggling had to take their 4.5% APR loan (though not bad for a used car, my credit dictated I should have a better rate). After 2 weeks and before my 1st payment, I went to my local credit union to check for a loan. Car was right below age & mileage limit (8 years & under 100k miles), with my credit I was able to secure a 1.99% loan for the same amount of months. Literally is saving me hundreds of dollars over the course of the loan + I got a free savings account that gives me like 2% interest a month.

Got a call a couple weeks later from the dealership, they were pissy about me transferring my loan. Guess they wanted the kickback from the loan too. LOL, that was for making me pay about $600 more on the car than I really wanted to.

I borrowed $11k on my 04 back in September of 2014 at around 2%

The money was almost free

If the car is in decent shape, a banking institution will loan the money

I have a loan w/ lightsteam for the TL-S I just purchased and have used them in the past. You will not find a better rate for a used. I'd highly recommend them. Can't beat a 3.6% rate on a car for 5 years! You will need good credit to get approved though.

Also, even though they ask the purpose of the loan, it is unsecured.
