buying an 05 TL

Hi,
I'm usually on the CL boards, but my dad is going to be buying a new car soon, and I just wanted some input on the 05 TL. I've gone through some of the FAQs but didn't see them.
My questions are.
1) are the 05 TL 5AT affected by the tranny recall because i know the 04 models are

2) about how much would it cost to get one with no navi?

3) any other significant probs I should expect

4) what kind of gas is recommended? 91 octane?

4) any other sedans that might be recommended? so far, came down to the es330, fully loaded camry XLE v6, or the TL

5) any other comments or input you can give me

Thanx for your input

I think people are not rushing to answer you because all of these have been covered recently in threads in this forum. We don't use the fAQ's in 3G TL like they do in CL, so you will have to do a search of the main forum for answers.

When you find the threads, you can post any further questions in the applicable thread.

Some answers to your questions

1) As far as I've heard the 5AT for 05 have been relatively problem-free from a design point of view.

2) Depends on where you live but expect ~$2K off list price

3) Some folks have had some leather seat issues known as "butt-prints" but the 05 TL seem to be more problem-free from a production build quality. The Nav's come with Michellin tires for 05 which are better than the Bridegstone EL42's.

4) Premium, 91 or better octane fuel is recommended.

5) es330, fully loaded camry XLE v6, or the TL

ES330 - Nice luxury car for good ride and comfort. Not as sporty as TL but also more appointments in interior also.

XLE V6 Camry - Similar to ES330 but not as much luxury

TL - More sporty than the first 2 in terms of handling, acceleration, braking, interior/exterior styling.

I have a 05 6MT, so far knock fake wood it's been vibration/rattle-free. For the money it's a great car, very happy driving with my 05 6MT.
