Somebody already said it, but maybe it needs saying again. The warranty doesn't cover stupidity or driver error. If you drive into a pole, should Honda's warranty cover the damage? How is this so different? Just because it's easy to do doesn't mean Honda should pay for the damage, if all systems in the car were working properly. A lawsuit wouldn't go anywhere. (It MIGHT be a different story if something like this somehow happened with an automatic trans.) It's may be the case that homeowner's insurance would cover it, however.
Also, as far as I know, the computers don't know the date. I've never had to input the date into a car's computer after initializing, erasing codes, etc. It might be the case that it knows the number of days since first turned on (from which you could get the date by adding to the date of manufacture), but the computer would have to have retained power when the battery is disconnected for this to work correctly.

I was driving someone's '03 Maxima SE 6MT once on the highway @ 80mph... accidentally downshifted into 2nd.. and I heard the front wheels lock up and start squealing. I immediately pushed the clutch in and upshifted to 5th again. What mechanical connection caused the wheels to lock up?

No car will survive downshifting thousands of rpm over the redline. The Acura manual clearly states you can damage the engine by downshifting from too high a speed. Do not go to a racing school if you think over-reving is okay, as they will fine you heavily based on the tach tell-tale.

BUT, if you were doing 70 and dropped the clutch in first gear just to see what happens... then probably yes...

Not all cars are the same, toyota for example, they're motors arent valeve benders, thats y u see a toyota's timing belt break or a high speed shift down and not bend valves, but honda on the other hand, has high compression motors, so the combustion chamber smaller, so when the valves come down they go far enough to hit the pistions, toyotas dont, and when ur at such a high RPM the valves will "float" (stay in the open position) and with V-tec being engaged just means the valves are being opened even more giving you a greater chance to hit those valves. so thats basically what happened with my bro's car, the valves floated for the 2. something seconds and managed to hit the 6 pistons and damage them all, he ended up getting a new short block and head. and it was waranteed, now the only thing he's worried bout is the car losing value, cuz honostly i wouldnt want a 04 car with a diff motor than orig.
