Bringing TL from USA to Canada - issues
OK....I have had my TL up here for a couple weeks now, and only have 2 issues. Nothing with the car, just the "systems" that support it.
Navi DVD - I can't order the new version. The website does not recognize Canadian addresses for some reason, and when you call the number for help, you get directed to other phone numbers until you get back to the first.
XM Radio - the code does not work in XM Canada website, and my CDN credit card does not work in the American site. The phone numbers just put me around and around in circles to the CDN and US companies, and each believes the other is responsible.
Other than that, everything is great. Love the car.

The maps show any city/town within 100 miles of the border, but does not reach as far as Calgary, for instance.
There is a "grey" disk that should be used for all the CDN stuff not on the main USA one. To get this, I have to buy the entire update, which is where I am stuck now.

Was the Navi DVD included with your car? If so, can you go to a Canadian Acura dealership to get a Canadian version of the DVD for your car or will it not recognize it since it's US spec? I thought it should be universal considering there's a TL that had been imported from Japan and there's a TL in Germany right now.

Did you ever find out about warranty issues?

If they bought the car in the US and live in Canada, they are screwed when it comes to warranty.
American Honda will cover you if you bought the car in the US and are visiting Canada and have a warranty related repair. If you bought the car in the US to import to Canada you have no warranty in Canada and would have to come State side to get warranty work done.
They recently sent out a bulletin to all American Acura dealers re stating their policy on this. It would look like they intend to come down extremely hard on any US dealer that knowingly sells a car to a Canadian for export to Canada.
I regards to the run around on the XM, the person who is a fault here is the unscrupulous dealer who sold you the car knowing the whole time the problems you would face once you drove it off the lot and hit the border (when it was no longer his problem).

Seems like alot of ppl are buying cars in USA from Canada due to the strong cdn dollar. How much did you end up saving if you don't mind me asking?

Hey, am another importer from Canada.
Saved CAD $15,400 on my 2008 NBP TL-Navi.
Honestly, I think many just don`t care about warranty when you save that much.
Dealer said that once the car is exported out of US, you are not covered, however, I have a written agreement with him that if I have something more expensive to fix (over US$1000) I can come in. All he asked for was to get US address (of my friend) so that he can do it as warranty work.
I also stopped @ the Toronto dealer (sherway) and ordered a CDN DVD which is on its way.
Anyways, enjoying my car and love it a lot

Like Joko said, I saved enough on the car to make it worth while to have no warranty. I saved about $12K on a comparable car here, so alot has to break to catch up to that one.
The dealer was a bad one.....I found out last night after trying to procure my owners manual and floor mats that the salesman I was dealing with got canned.
So now I am dealing with the manager, and I am expecting a bit better service (but not holding my breath)
I am going to put in a call to a Cdn dealer to see if I can track down a disk.

That's interesting, So what was the total out the door price you paid...if you don't mind me asking.
Also, no modifications were necessary before you can register it Canada to get car insurance?

This is one instance when low tech is > high tech. Sorry for your troubles.
For the XM part I would contact XM. For the navi part I am sure you could probably just put in the latest Navi DVD for Canada. Have you tried going into a dealer? BTW I haven't read the entire thread so I may be asking stuff someone else already has.
