break in your new TL
Hello, I am new proud owner of TL 05 nav/manual!!!!!!!
I been browsing this site for while and wanted to ask a question regarding "break in " a new car.
I searched through this forum but I do not see proper way or experince on how to break in their new car.
Can someone tell me when is the best time(after 1000 miles was my guess) and how to really break in the car?
Some people say, just put it into neutral and rev the engine to red light few times...
or just go crazy fast.. is there proper way? or how often you should do it? what's the advatange of it? Can someone tell me please?
Thanks!! and loving the CAR
my mod wants in near future (comment on them if u like!)
1)tint -- live in jersey so i have to think about this
2)short shift stick -- trying to think of ways to do it on my own
3)IPOD integration!!!!!

Yep, like CHIEFZUSAF says, it's in your owner's manual.
While it's true that some do say to drive it hard from the get go, I prefer not to do this. I generally take around 1000 miles, starting VERY easy and carefully with the entire drive train and progressively move to more normal driving. In particular, the first 200 to 300 miles can be critical with the brakes. Most knowledgeable people on this site will advise you to change your original factory oil by 3000 miles.
But in the end, it's your car so you should do as you see fit.
Welcome aboard!

no I wouldn't do that-
1. take it easy the first 600 miles
2. don't use cruise control as to negate keeping the engine at a certain rpm for an extended period of time
3. don't take the car to redline(really over 5500 or so)
4. don't "floor it" too often
5. take it easy on the brakes
these are just a few that came to mind-I'm sure there are more!
